Sigh.. weird problem

As an ex-wrestler, let me tell you that everyone makes sure to keep their eyes raised during public/group showers. It's like in public restrooms - you could look at other guys urinating, but you manage to avoid it.

heh, mr pink is dead on

plus, its not like its a group shower, at least not at my schoo. We had 4 shower stalls and each one had a little area in front with a shower curtain where you could change/towl dry in privacy. then you could step into your own private shower and it had a glass door that closed, rather than a shower curtain.

Being ex-military, I know ALL about community bathrooms. Going in, I was scared to death, as I have always been a very modest person. But, I learned...very quickly (showering with 15-20 females at a time will do that)...to get over it.

You're going to need to shower and use the bathroom. There may be times when you can get the bathroom to yourself (in the wee hours of the morning, maybe) but, more often than not, you will be "sharing". Just keep in mind, that person is there to do the same thing as you...shower and use the bathroom...and, maybe they have the same type of bathroom-phobia. Just go in there and do what you have to do..and don't think about it. Unfortunately, most of college life revolves around community living...and it's just something you'll need to adjust to.
The only way you'll be guaranteed privacy is if you get your own apartment.

Also, you can always check out the dorm set-ups at different colleges you are looking at.
I know my school has a number of different bathroom schemes in their dorms. There are the usual community bathrooms that are shared by a floor-full of students, there are suite-style rooms where 2 rooms are connected by a bathroom and the bathroom is shared by (at most) 4 people, or we have one hall that is set up as 2 rooms and one bathroom...all shared by 2 people. The first 2 types of rooms are available to all students, while the latter is only available to upperclassmen.

Anyway, that's a lot of rambling. Good luck to you, in whatever you choose!

my experience as a freshman living on an all girls hall (public restroom):
-girls are very dirty. b/c it was a hall bathroom, the janitor lady cleaned it every morning at like 7-8, and tahts when I used the restroom.
-usually on weekends, the restrooms are trashed, i.e. one girl puked in the showers which left the most horrible smell for about a week
-i never understood why people dont flush after themselves, FLUSH PEOPLE

im SO glad my roomie and I will be having our own restroom this yr

^Yeah, in my experience I've seen that girls' bathrooms are dirtier than guys'. Like when I go to my girl friends' houses, their bathrooms have all kinds of makeup and hair products and clothes strewn everywhere, and the place is just a mess, toopaste on the counter, blow dryer in the sink, etc.

Then guys' bathrooms seem so tidy and organized in comparison. Maybe it's just because they never wash. Haha.

Ummm, have you seen my brothers' bathrooms? I swear some guys will never quite aim right, even if they are adults.

What type of schools are you looking at? How selective, etc? I know that Ramapo College, a small public LAC in Jersey has private bathrooms - and really nice dorms, but most people on CC are aiming way higher than that. I think someone already mentioned NYU, but I'm sure there are more. If you tell us a little more, it'd be easier for us to help :)

NYU and WashU I know both have private or semi-private bathrooms. I'm in a triple next year [at nyu] and we have our own bathroom.

Okay, this is a phobia

my point is, even if in college you can run back and forth to your dorm to go #1, when you have a job, and are commuting, its is going to be much tougher, so you need to work on this now before it gets worse

do you ever use a public bathroom- like at an amusement park, the beach, out shopping, on an airplane, eating out, at the movies?

think about this, if you don't get over it, your life can be difficult, what if you are on vacation, your honeymoon, a graduation trip...what wil. you do...wil l you limit yourself to how far away your bathroom is?

this is a serious question, i know, but you will miss put on lots of opportunities if you don't figure out how to use a public toliet without getting icked out all the time, or you will give yourself health problems

now, while you are young, is the time to stop hating the toliet that is used by others....you need, this year, starting now, to start p33ing in public places,,,,the rest of us do...an your world won't be so small, and to miss out on what could be a fabulous college because of a tolet, well, sounds kind of silly, doesn't it
