Sights in San Fran/berkeley

What are some good places to visit in the Berkeley/San Fran area?

can't edit but... for teens.

The whole city of San Fran is just really fun to explore.

There's the really obvious like Lombard Street, Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Warf, Chinatown, Cable Cars, Sausalito, etc. I'm not from the city itself but i've visited a bunch of times, and the best thing you can do is hit some of the big sites you want to see then just have fun getting lost in the city. Most everything intertwines so you'll find yourself making your way around S.F. area pretty easily.

Don't forget Union Square. Great shopping! Also Twin Peaks which provides a great view of the Bay. And Golden Gate Park and Haight and Ashbury. There's so many great places to go.

I highly recommend Golden Gate Park too. Go to the De Young Museum. Even if you don't like art, it's pretty cool inside and for the few dollars in admission fee you get to go up the observational tower, which gives you a breathtaking view of the city, especially near sunset. GG Park also has a Japanese Tea Garden, a cute (manmade) lake where you can rent paddleboats, and a (also manmade) waterfall.

Walking around the city is really nice. It's really not that large, so you can go through a few neighborhoods in an afternoon. One Saturday I did: Union Square -> Chinatown -> North Beach -> Embarcadero -> Financial District.

Berkeley...well there's always the very colorful Telegraph Avenue. Start at Bancroft and keep walking south. Check out Moe's (used and new bookstore), Reprint Mint (one of the best poster stores ever), all the food places (Intermezzo for salads and sandwiches, Berkel Berkel for Korean BBQ, Naan n Curry for Indian, etc)

campanile, asian ghetto, amoeba and rasputin (record stores) there's a million good head shops, talk to students, people watch on sproul for like 20 minutes at around noon.
revolution books in sather lane (talk to some old communist hippies, they got some firey ideas). Yogurt Park.
On north side you got the gourmet ghetto (the birthplace of california cuisine).
Raleigh's is a good bar if you got an ID or ur parents post up.
Visit dorms if you can.
Elmwood's a nice place (down college, at ashby).
there's plenty to do.

Check out the Exploratorium if you're into science. Love that place.

The Exploratorium is definitely amazing!

It's touristy, but riding on a trolley is fun.

In Berkeley, the UC Botanical garden is worth seeing; there is also a botanical garden with native plants in Tilden Park, which is worth exploring. Fourth Street in Berkeley is the upscale shopping street (where Cody's has moved, from Telegraph); Shattuck at Rose is the "gourmet ghetto" where you can try the wonderful pizza at the Cheeseboard. Solano Street is a pleasant walk, with a small-town feel and some good eateries; La Farine Bakery is excellent for pastries. If your parents are with you, they will like these places a lot more than Telegraph Avenue! They might also like trying the food at Chez Panisse -- upstairs is cheaper, but call for a reservation.
