Sightseeing ideas for Miami in August

I thought of starting this tread to help the new students and family find good suggestions of places to go and things to do during their time here in Miami. Please suggest a variety of activities because some people will be making this trip their "family vacation".

Going on an airboat tour in the everglades is a unique thing to do if you’re not from the area. South Beach is always an interesting place to check out.

We took a family Segway tour through South Beach which was so much fun!

I’ve been seeing a ton of Groupons for things to do in the area, lately. I found a $27 3-hour tour of the Everglades, or a 3-hour tour of Miami and boat tour through Bayside; I think my friends and I are going to do the Everglades tour before we move out in a few weeks (so sad :().

60-90 minutes from downtown Miami you can take a day trip to Biscayne National Park for snorkeling and scuba diving. They will rent all the equipment you need. A lot of fun.

We were lucky enough to spend six wonderful weeks in Coconut Grove over Feb/March this year - sure wish we were still there since it was 38 degrees and snowed off and on today here in Chicagoland. Yesterday we got seven inches of rain resulting in massive flooding all over the area. I miss Miami!

During our first stint as snowbirds some of the highlights were over the []_[]'s spring break when my mom and step-dad flew down to join us and along with IllD93 we visited Vizcaya Estate and Gardens and Fairchild Tropical Gardens, took a hop-on hop-off open-top Big Bus tour of the whole Miami area and South Beach (a half-price Groupon deal that’s not running now but there’s one for the competitor “City Sightseeing Miami” listed) and then an incredible tram tour in the Shark Valley section of the Everglades where we saw tons of alligators and other wildlife.

Lincoln Road is always nice. Of course the beach is the number one thing for tourists

Key Biscayne is lovely. Best beach in Miami if you’re looking to kick back and relax.

Went on a Segway ride on South Beach today. $30 for an hour and a half. So much fun!

My friends and I went on this speed boat tour called Thriller, was pretty exciting I think it was worth it, you basically get to go around and see the different islands the rich people live in and stuff like that, it’s about $35 for a 45 minute tour.

Here’s two images I took, first one is of the boat and the second one is of a view of part of the city.
