Sigma Phi Lambda??

I saw The website for UF's Sigma Phi Lambda chapter and I am interested in this sorority. I was confused abut the sorority in general and just how it is run because it is non-panhellenic. When andhow can someone join Sigma Phi Lambda? Also, does anyone know approximately what the dues are for this chapter? I would definitely be willing to spend the money to join and be a member, but it would be nice to have a general idea financially.

This should give you a better idea about the NU chapter at UF:

As long as you meet the membership requirements, you can become a member (You select being a member, the membership does not select you).

You should post your questions on the chapter’s facebook page.

Good Luck!

Hi  I am a member and officer of another Sigma Phi Lambda, aka PhiLamb, chapter. PhiLamb is a national Christian sororitory, with 31 chapter all over the USA. PhiLamb is not Greek and will never be Greek; we follow the laws of God, not the ones of the Panhellenic system. To join Sigma Phi Lambda you need to attend Formal Rush, meet 80% of your point requirements, attend a church and bible study, pay dues, and score a passing grade on your pledge test.

When you get to UF, the first thing you should do is attend at least one Rush event. Rush is where you go out, meet the members and get to know them somewhat. Some schools have a thing called “introductions” where you meet the officers seperately to learn more about PhiLamb. Formal Rush is an event where you are basically saying you will pledge the sorority. PhiLamb does not do bids or chose members- you chose us. Rush is done at the beginning of every fall and spring semester.

I do not know the exact amount that the UF chapter charges for dues. Things I can tell you are dues cannot be more than the cost of taking 3 credit hours at your school- it’s a National Bylaw. Dues for PhiLamb are usually lower than dues for Greek sororitories (at my school the dues for a semester are $158 for pledges, active dues are $126, and dues for the Greek sororitories are between $800 to $1000). To find out the exact cost, message the UF chapter on Facebook and ask about dues, Rush dates, and other important dates. The reason pledge dues are higher than active dues, is because the extra money is spent on your active pin when you become a member after pledging for a semester. Dues are used to cover everything for the semester (Rush, Retreat, parties/mixers, and other activies).

I hope that you do join PhiLamb. It is a wonderful organization and I am proud to be a member :)
