Is it considered a cop-out to copy and paste a digital image of something into a word doc and upload that into the box? I wanted to upload an image of a marimba, and I can say with confidence that my lack of artistic flair does it no justice whatsoever. Believe me, I tried.

No. Images from the internet are common. Try searching through some old posts in this forum for what other people have used.

As theForbes says, put anything that appeals to you. You can draw it, use an image from elsewhere, take a picture, make a design etc.

What exactly is the point of the rice box?

make your application more unique, give it some personality. I don’t think it makes much of an impact on your admission though.

I asked them today while I was on the phone about something else. The rep said it doesn’t affect your admission; a long time ago, it was added for a creative touch to your application and so people would sign the statement. It’s just stuck since then.

We really need a floated FAQ thread on this forum that specifically addresses this question and the one about listing other universities to which you are applying.

A sticky thread would be good.

This just needs to be explained on the application.

Somehow I feel that no matter what they put on the application we’d still get worried students wondering if they could game the system somehow.

Touche.

It’s like those threads that start with ‘Is it cheating if…’. Most of the time, if you have to ask, it is.

So true.

As for the digital image thing, I used something off of Google Images. It’s fine.
