Signed up for a Journalism elective - does this help much?

Hey guys! Yesterday we signed up for electives. I went with Journalism.

When applying to college, I want to go into the Journalism and Business field. I was thinking maybe minoring in Journalism.

Now here is the thing.. when I apply to colleges, I have a much better chance of getting in if I go for their journalism programs. Why?

Editor-in-chief of school newspaper

I broke 600 on the verbal and writing sections first time I took the SAT, got a 450 in math....
-English grades have never been below a 90

I am about to launch a website based on music journalism. Doing band interviews, gear reviews, etc.

Business? I don't have much to back it up. I do have a love for business as I do have my own business repairing computers and working with tech. I'd like go into administration.

So as you can see, my background in Journalism is quite a bit stronger. Now electives...

It was between Speech+Accounting (they are 1/2 year courses). And then Journalism (1 year course).

I could only choose one, unfortunately. I liked the idea of speaking better, and getting some work in the area of finance and business, but writing is my strongest talent and I wanted to perfect that skill going into college (well, perfection is impossible, but I want to make sure it is damn good).

Now my question is: when I apply to schools like Syracuse's New house, or any other school, and I put down as my major in Journalism... does having already took a class on it help a lot? Or is it just ehh, whatever. Ho wmuch of an impact might it have?

And also, when I apply, how should I try and get into schools? I want to major in business and most likely minor in Journalism, or double major.. or whatever works. Just wandering if it's cool if I use journalism as a means of getting into schools, then switching. Still unsure how this whole process works.

Too long didn't read, long story short: I signed up for a journalism class. How much is it going to help me get into journalism programs especially top ones, and considering I already had a strong background in the field?

Thanks!

It’s an elective. You’d be better off taking a full year academic core, or even an AP; but a full year of Journalism still > two half-year electives.

Well in addition, I forgot to mention I am also taking AP English. AP Economics as well.
