Significance of Being Part of a Frat

What are your opinions regarding joining a frat? Does it have advantages in terms of recruitment and future career success? Is it a worthwhile network? Your thoughts would be appreciated!

If your recruiter happens to be in the same frat, absolutely. If not, not even remotely.

Remember that one of the guys got kicked off The Aprentice because Trump found out he was in a fraternity. To me fraternity has always conjured images of "huge tools" with "righteous tribals" that are "totally rad".

like mr payne said, if like the person interviewing you is from the same frat, you'll be in good shape. but if not, who cares.

i honestly think there are more worthwhile things to do in college rather than be a part of a frat. i dunno, just my opinion.

wrong wrong wrong all wrong, let me tell you some practical experiences from my fratty experiences, bro.

one of the things my frat is doing is setting up a resume book which gets sent out to alums in recruitment/managemnet positions. some of the firms our alums currently have influence over are goldman sachs, morgan stanley, merrill lynch, bear stern, deliotte consulting, protiviti, bain, kpmg, capital group of companies, cb richard ellis, colliers seeley, marcus millichap and countless start ups that are alums have created from scratch. this is actually how my roomate got a position at merril lynch sales and trading. one of our alums (who was on the board of trustees of USC) offers free consulting services for fresh grads looking to start their own small biz. he's also our bear stern connect and is my mentor.

holding an exec position in a fraternity also gives you a lot of real world experience in running an organization. for example, our treasurer manages a $500,000 annual budget, which is great conversation in an interview.

im also working setting up a discount textbook outlet which may be coming to a campus near you (if you are on the west coast) so that you can buy your accounting and finance books for $70-80 brand new instead of $150 (in case you havent noticed, bookstore mark up is about 4x the actual cost of the book). and it was very beneficial to learn that somebody in my frat gave me the contact of a local supplier. it also beneficial that my mentor is helping me step by step in developing a biz plan in order to raise the $200,000 start up cost.

our alums are also members of both the jonathan club and the california club. in fact, an alum owns the building that the jonathan club is in. we have our bid dinners and senior brunches at jonathan club, free of charge.

What frat is that?

if books were really marked up 4x, i am sure someone would have already opened up several retail disount book stores for text books. I have seen the costs of several of the $150 books and the book store buying costs are no where near $35-$37. But selling $70-$80 will still give bring in considerable revenue

Now smart students that want to save money can just call the book company and order the simplest textbooks, those with black/white orientations and paper back covers for $60. Nearly ever book company can offer their selection in that manner, they just dont tell anyone obviously for profits, but it is available for those who do know and especially for those that trully cant afford the higher prices

How was he kicked off for being part of a Frat.

The guy says, "I rose to the top of everything, I was even the president of my fraternity"

Trump: "You were in a fraternity? You're fired" (cliche' arm motion)

Trump is a tool, he is probably jealous of frat-guys getting all the girls while he is off catching roadkill for his wig.

Donald Trump could get any girl he wants, he doesnt even have to try. Look at his "wife"

Yea and his "exwives", all models I believe...

I'm sure Trump must be a little emotionally & mentally lonely though, as he realizes that it is only his money keeping girls around, and he is being used.

I'm sure most people wouldn't understand, but even in a situation like Trump's--people do not like being used.

themk99.. trump is a tool? riiiiiiiiiiiight.
you're probably a freakin tool. stop being jealous.

I'm far from jealous. If I was to be jealous of a rich person, it would be Gates or Buffet or some real innovator....not some guy who overcharges people on apartment buildings and stamps his name on everything.

uhhhh newsflash: trump inherited his money and ****ed most of it away. if you actually look up to trump or belive him to be some sort of shrewd investor then you are sadly misinformed

Yeah, Trump is actually a huge tool. He has a huge inferiority complex which is why he:
A) Stamps his name on everything (even everyside of his builidings, helicopters, towels at hotels, water at hotels, cups at hotels, you get the picture).
B) Cries at night.
C) Has cheated on all his wives.
D) Agreed to be on The Apprentice
E) Demanded that he be shown in Home Alone 2 in the Plaza Hotel (check out that one liner, I **** you not)
F) Got his lunch money taken from him in elementary school and was a bi-tch about it.
G) Has rediculous hair.
H) Is losing money (he's selling his stuff), he's up **** creek once the NY housing bubble goes down.

I wouldn't use DT as my personal example of a solid business man. What DT is good at is talking banks into loaning him money then they have a hell of a time getting it back. :) Sort of a PT Barnanm of real estate.

I don't watch the apprentice so I didn't see it but I would venture to guess the "firing" was a calculated move to impress the average viewer ( a box of rocks) that DT is above the frat fray.

I feel sorry for you if you're going to base your decisions in life on prime time tv.

It was my two cents, and I just don't really like stereotypical frat people, neither do employers.

"stereotypical frat people, neither do employers."

And they would be.... say Bob Dole or a Jimmy Buffet?

Can you give some employers as example?
