I've recently registered for the December 8th test date, but when I received the confirmation, I realized that I did not enter my Social Security Number in when I registered. The bottom of the ticket says that I must call them to make any changes, and I was just wondering if having the SSN linked with my test is vital before I do so.

I think its mainly just another way of identifying you. I never put mine in and its just fine. I think its important for stand-by testing however.

Just remember to keep your student number or ID or whatever they call it, if you want to call and get your early scores. That's the only way to get them if you didn't put your SSN on the application.

It's vital to link the two. My S took the ACT twice, putting his SS# on both tests, however there was a glitch and one was unreadable. So, they assigned him an ACT ID #, which is what they do if you don't have a SS# on the exam. We discovered when he was applying to colleges that his update pages were not listing both ACT's, and he did better on the second one. So we called ACT, and they told us what had happened. We then had to call admissions of each university and "link" his files because they weren't aware that JM ACT # was the same as JM SS#. We had the same thing recently happen with AP exams, as well .... so double check those update admissions pages and make sure everything's arrived correctly. You may find yourself under two different files, which an admissions officer will have to manually connect.

zebes

That happened with my d's AP account. But we discovered it before anything had been sent, and College Board made the connection for us. Then when we sent the scores to the school she decided to go to, they got everything.

I didn't put mine on and two colleges that I sent it in to at the time both sent me letters that they didn't have it after I applied. They found it no problem, but with the SSN it would have been easier.

You can always wait until you're ready to send scores, and have ACT put your SSN on just the records you want to send before you send them. It's a simple phone call. Actually, you can even do it on the page where you order score reports online.

Thanks for all the help. I'll probably call and get my SSN added to my test info, but I'm a junior, so I'm not extremely concerned with the scores being sent off to colleges right now, in the case that I may have to take the test again. But it doesn't seem like it'll hurt, so I'll do it just in case I need the scores sent off anytime soon.

Okay, just make sure you use your new match ID (from your new admission ticket) when you test.
