<p>As my sophomore year was coming to an end, it was time for me to decide which AP classes I would take for my junior year. Once I heard about the work that was involved in an AP class, I started to worry. Questions started forming in my mind; How hard will the May AP exam be? How much homework would I have each day? Will I have tests and quizzes every single week? Will I be able to maintain my grades while taking an AP class? This would be the first time that I would be taking an AP course. However, junior year, my options were limited. The only options I had were to take AP Chemistry, AP Statistics or both. However, I did not want to risk getting low grades on my transcript, so I only took AP Chemistry. This felt like one of the most important decisions I would have to make during my high school career.</p>
<pre><code>When the first day of school arrived, I was ready to take the challenge. My teacher, Dr. Chan, began explaining his expectations. Despite my worries, I tried to remain as calm as possible. Moments later, he handed out a pop-quiz on Chemistry topics and I could not believe it. Fortunately, I remembered some information when I was studying for the Chemistry Regents during my sophomore year. After the quiz I felt relieved, and I felt even more relieved when Dr. Chan informed us that the quiz did not count as part of our grades. Days passed and I felt very stressed out with the numerous hours of homework I was receiving each night. However, I was determined to do my best and overcome the challenge. Dr. Chan was a great teacher; he was always there to help out and stay after school if students did not understand a concept. Weeks passed and I was getting decent grades on my tests. Although I did not get the grades I had anticipated on my tests, I was able to attain high 80s and low 90s in the class. The AP Exam was approaching and I studied hours every night preparing for it. After taking the AP Exam in May, I felt very confident that I would get a 4 or 5 despite the difficulty of the course.
It is now the end of my junior year, and I have taken the AP exam and survived the class. I felt that the fact that I received a 4 is a great achievement because I was scared of the AP class. However, at the end, all the hard work and determination paid off. Taking the AP class was not as bad as I thought. Even though it was hard to take along with my other honors classes, I managed to get high grades. My study habits have changed, and I overcame my fear of taking an AP class. I feel that it was the right decision for me to take the AP class.
