hey is it true that you sign up for classes during your orientation date?

No.

10 chars.

When do u do it then?

we signed up for classes at my 2002 orientation, though if you're already in possession of your PID and PAC, there's nothing to stop you from registering once your registration date rolls around (check tritonlink)

Better come with 45+ units if you're a bio major, to avoid partial to complete screwage.

^true~~~~~~~~~

why do you need 45+ credits??

sophomore standing starts at 45

You sign up sometime in August with everyone else. You're assigned a time and you log on to Tritonlink and sign up. The time is completely random.

And eh, I'd say you're safe with 30+ units to get the classes you want. Anything significantly less than that (~20) and you get kinda screwed over on times and professors. This is based on experience. Thank goodness those days are (pretty much) over and I can get into any class I need, for the most part.

On orientation day you meet with an adviser and they tell what classes to take, but you don't actually sign up for them until August. But you might not necessarily get all of the classes you want... I remember trying to sign up for Muir 40. A total nightmare.

The time is COMPLETELY non-random. Athletes sign up first, then it goes by how many units you have, the more, the earlier you sign up. Freshmen fall signups are during the summer before school, they are based entirely on how many units you come in with.

so if i come in with about 20 credits
is that a really bad thing?
i am hopping i dont get screwed over
and also is this the way they arrange class selections times all four years?

Ok, so I'm a computer science major at Revelle. I had to drop all my APs for this year due to illness, so I'll be entering campus with a relatively low amount of credits. This seems to put me at a disadvantage.

... can I still graduate in 4 years?

no.... basically you get a random time slot and sign up... i think the end of august

but afterwards youre assigned times based on the number of units you have... and if youre certain status you get priority (ex. athletes/ scholars/ ta /etc)

and to z7xfla it might suck but it wouldnt be impossible... you just might have a couple of classes at not so great times

yeah freshman times for the first quarter are completely random. you only start registering based on units second quarter. but all the units you'll have when you register for winter quarter are your AP exams since you register before you're done with fall quarter and before you get your grades and units.

anywho, i came in with 28 units. not THAT many and i've been fine so far. yeah i couldn't get into warren writing 10B winter quarter but that's cause they don't have enough room for everybody.

you'll be fine though, don't worry.

what if you have no units coming into college? where do you get these unitss?

APs and community college

so how many units is like a 3 on an AP

Which AP is it? Also, UCSD doesn't accept 3's for at least some courses.

Your individual college website should have a chart that tells you how much credit you'll get for what. Or you can check page 48 of the 2007-2008 general catalog.
