Silent digital watch?

People and prep books alike tell me it's a good idea to bring a digital watch that doesn't make noise to the SAT, to serve as a timer. Yesterday I must have looked at 10 digital watches in Target and City Sports, and all of them make noise. Every time you press a button it beeps. Does anyone know where to get these fabled silent digital watches? And, if per chance the reader of this post has the last one in existence, can you mail it to me? :)

Yeah, it is a pain to find them. My dad spent 4 hours just to find one.

The one I have vibrates. It is "CASIO Module No. 2993 Referee Timer"

Try to look it up online. If you find yourself out of luck and don't mind spending like $30-40 then there is one on Amazon.com which you can search for "silent timer."

Hope that helps.

When I took it in January, I just hit the Start button(the timer) as she said BEGIN, and my beep was lost in the turning of pages in the room. When it finishes, you have time in between(a little, which you can easily reset it), and the proctor shouldn't mind it.

I have one that beeps, it doesn't really affect anything and the proctor doesn't mind--the only issue is that you look like a complete tool when you press the beep button while wearing a goofy velcro watch during the SAT.
I got some dirty and confused looks.
But in any case, it will just save you some trouble to get one that beeps in the absence of a silent watch.

My proctor warned a kid for a beep watch. He said he was going to dismiss him (CANCEL SAT SCORES) if the watch beeped again. O_O

So yea, I don't take any timers or anything. I mean, there's always a big clock right there in front of your face on the wall. What's the point of bringing another one? It just adds more stress for me.

I am using Casio W-110-7AVEF in vibration mode. I got it in UK, but I think it's discontinued. Out of curiosity I checked a bunch of super-cheap digital watches at *-Mart a few months ago. Several of them hardly made a beep in a stopwatch mode (at zero, start, and stop).

Actually, I am not using my watch as a timer on tests anymore - only as a stopwatch. Keep in mind that many vibration alarm watches produce very loud beeps when you are setting them in any mode (I tried several models; mine does beep too, but very softly).

I had a Casio a couple years ago that didn't beep. I don't remember the model, but it had a calculator and could turn TVs on and off.

EVERYONE!!!!
I found this incredible company that makes Silent Timer Watches.
It can either count up or count down, and also has the time and day.
It's not the best looking watch but it makes no noise and its only $18.
Here is the website
Silent Watch for Test Takers

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT

Just go to the Family Dollar or dollar general (stores where everything costs MORE than a dollar but not much more)

I got a cheapie kid watch for 3 bucks that does NOTHING but tell time.

And to Feed there is NOT always a clock. I went to a huge testing center for my APs and there were NO clocks plus the proctor's didn't say when we had 10 minutes left or anything.

my nike wwatch doesn't beep. then again its like $100

@elizlan, LOL, that sucks... Especially since you're pretty much in my vicinity. Maybe I should get one of these silent timers... but I have the whole summer to worry about that.
Thanks for the heads up! :)

Love the way you spelt VA.

lol-it's slightly amusng that this whole thread is devoted to finding a watch that doesn't beep.

z09, The Silent Timer sounded perfect, but I found out today that it has been discontinued. Any one know of a watch that a)doesn't beep and b)has a countdown function?

My daughter took the SAT last year and had her watch confiscated for beeping when she pressed any of the buttons. She did not even get a warning.

The silent watch sounds awesome but I just went to the site, and didn't see it listed for purchase.

This was our solution. We went to Walmart and looked at the watches in the clearance display. We bought an Ironman look-a-like for I think $5. It had all the same functions as the Timex Ironman. We took the watch to our local watch guy. He snipped the connector to the speaker and charged us $5 if i remember right. Total cost: $10

So my watch is one of the standard timer watches a lot of you probably have.

Three buttons: Start/Stop, Reset, Switch Mode (Timer->Time->Change Time ->)

You should recognize it if you have it.

I'm pretty sure there's a function in the manual where you push 2-3 buttons at once or something that turns OFF the beeps (and another one that turns off all chimes)
I don't know which buttons these are but if someone does or has a manual please pm me or tell me.

Thanks

And a lot of people prob have same watch so it'll help if you tell us all.

The walmart watch lady told us that a number of watches had a function where you could turn off the beeps and the chimes, and she proceeded to show us. She turned of the beeps and the chimes on many many watches at Walmart, and the watches wouldn't beep unless you pressed the timer or countdown modes - unbelievable!

Um, thats what i just said ryanone. and I basically asking you HOW did the lady do it??

nike wristwatch with mute option

I use a beeping one, but no one notices the sound it makes in a large room with a hundred kids.

@Rayone

the thing about getting the speaker connection cut sounds pretty smart... I bet that if somebody could post a guide online we could do it ourselves
