Silent digital watch?

A low-tech solution here:

I love how everyone has got it all planned out :)

I probably need to figure out my watch as well.

You could alternatively find the speaker of the watch and put a piece of duct tape over it to silence it. If duct tape doesn't work (speakers too small?), get a piece of silly putty/play-dough/ bread dough, and fill up the speaker holes. That way, the proctor won't be able to hear the sound.

Preferably has an onscreen timer that shows exactly how much time you have left. Must have a silent alarm.

Cheaper is better.

Of course, I will use this for PSAT, ACT, APs, everyday life, etc.

By a casio digital watch. it’s a nice watch, 10 yr warranty, around 15-20 dollars

^agreed. Even the cheapest Casios last quite long and have adjustable timers and alarms.

any ol’ watch is fine. You may not want to time exactly 25 minutes because chances are the proctor is gonna stop you a few seconds earlier/later. If I were you i would time it for 24 so that you get a nice surprise when the timer hits 0

^ Not necessarily “cheap,” but it has the things you’re looking for and it’s really easy to use.

Are we allowed to have timers during SAT/ACT/APs? I thought only watches were allowed?

I’ve seen people with stopwatches… the proctors don’t say a thing.

bob64, any timepiece is allowed, really, as long as it doesn’t make noise.

That timer is specifically made for standardized tests; it doesn’t make any beeping sounds.

I’ve actually had same question for my ACT! I had the the opportunity to use my friend’s The Silent Timer and it was SUPER useful. The only thing is they don’t allow you to take it to the SAT/ACT testing center so…with my handy dandy Amazon searching I found…

The ExaminatorTM! Here is the link!

I had bought mine but I effed up the speakers so that it couldn’t work. The clock had speakers and a digital screen display and count-up and count-down functions.

i miss the beeps TT

you should just borrow a regular watch from someone. Not digital watch, just a plain watch. Turn the hour hand and minute hand at 12 o’clock. so when your test begins the hour hand will stay at the 12 while the minute hand will tell how much you have left. Then when going to the next section, rewind it back up. It’s really easy to see how much you have left rather than looking up.

Actually, you’re wrong on that one.
College Board does not allow you to have anything, including timers, on your desk except pencils and a calculator(only during math section)
What I found usefull was a SAT watch with a stop watch function that doesn’t make any noise.
I bought the watch on ebay cheap.

I know this thread is extremely old, but I was in the same situation as everyone over here just a couple days ago.

Then I realized something… first of all, almost all of you have some sort of digital watch lying around your house somewhere that no one uses. If not, you can buy an extremely cheap one anywhere. My dad actually used to sell watches and has around 1,000 in our garage (for an hour, I went through maybe half of those and found out they all beeped).

Then I realized, using one of those small screwdrivers, you can pop open the back cover (really, really simple). Once you do this, the back cover will actually have a yellow, circular piece of paper taped to it. Very easy to notice, might be a little different on some watches, but almost EVERY digital watch has this piece of paper glued onto the back cover. All you gotta do is peel it off (it’s glued real well - you’ll need a knife, that’s it).

You’re done, all you gotta do now is screw the back cover back on… this should all take 3 minutes, it’s extremely simple.

^ Interesting - I’ll try it out when I can find a digital watch. I have a couple but they’re out of batteries…

There’s an easy Instructable; it is basically unscrew the back plating of the watch (takes 30 seconds) and remove a small spring to silent the watch. It’s a 2 minute fix to save $15 + shipping

What if you take your watch off and set it on the desk?

Then it probably depends on the specific proctor. But I recommend wearing your wristwatch on your wrist!
