Well a month ago my friend told me about UChicago (I am an international applicant that is why i did not know about it :D). Ok, he said its a good school for sciences and engineering and stuff. So I decided, what the heck, i will apply. It's also ranked at no. 9 in the US news list of top national unis. A few hours ago I submitted my CA for UChicago but payed the fee just a few minutes ago. And then, you might have guessed what happened... I found out that UChicago doesn't even have an engineering deprtment :@ :(.
What do i do now? will they return me my app fee (sounds stupid I know), or should i submit my supplement in a few days (they will accept it this week)...??
:(

I also was looking at engineering initially, but even without it, UChicago is one of the best schools in the world. If you got in, you wouldn’t go wrong even if you decided to major in physics and then do engineering in grad school. I say keep the application going and hope for the best!

Grrrrrr. I did the same thing. I’ll just say I want to do engineering in graduate school and have do pure science for undergrad.

Don’t bother saying you’re plans for grad school, they may think that you’d take an engineering school over them, and then not accept you to keep their yield rate up. Just say you’re interested in Physics! Or w.e science!

Well this definitely cheers me up a bit. Well then i will submit my supplement later this week and hope for the best. :D

Well I listed for almost every college this CA list
- mechanical eng
- physics
- maths and stats

OK right?

No, you definitely shouldn’t put your first choice being something they don’t have!

I submitted my CA days ago
I seriously did not know that they did not have an eng dept!

That’s fine… If you didn’t know, email them and say you mis-selected or something. Say upon reviewing, you picked the wrong one and want it changed to x. Pick something they offer. Give it a shot; UChicago is one of the best schools in the States. Without a shadow of a doubt.

thanx bpsbgs. Ill mail now.

Can anyone tell me what to do? because I put chemical engineering as my first choice and engineering as my second choice. Should I call admissions and tell them it was a mistake and that my choice was supposed to be chemistry?

U of C is very used to this. They even joke about it in their information sessions. If I were you, I would not bother e mailing them to make a change that is so transparently a lie. Finish the supplement, perhaps even addressing your error in research in a humorous or ironic fashion, push submit and hope for the best. It sounds like this is not the school for you since you are committed to engineering. Chalk it up to experience, and next time do a little research. I’m sure you will find a school that is right for you and offers the major you want.

Well i got their a couple of hours ago and they said, “Feel free to send us an edited version of your academic interests to the e-mail account.”
So yeah I will send them the edited version :D

what email account do we send it to?

Wongtongtong, direct all your general questions to collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu
Also include your CA name and CA ID in your email. And all applicants to UChicago, submit your supplement by Friday or Saturday!!
Good luck

I didn’t get my email yet…when did you get yours?

I emailed UChicago at 2.04 pm yesterday. Received their reply at 9.17pm yesterday.
mention your CA id to get a faster response
