My son has decided to apply to his top school early decision. He has a signed "early decision request" which needs to be sent to the school (the application will be sent electonically next week). My silly question is...should this be sent priority mail or return receipt requested or do most people just send the early decision form regular mail and assume it will arrive without a problem?

You can put a self addressed postcard in with the paperwork. On the back write “Please acknowledge that early decision request was received” with his name on it. The office staff will likely stamp it and send it back to you. You can also do this with applications and letters of reference.

My son put self-addressed STAMPED postcards into every one of his mailed applications last year, and only one of the seven was returned to us.

If you need to be certain it arrived and on time, send it priority or with receipt.

If you really want to ensure delivery in a timely fashion, FedEx it. :)

Many schools have online application status features so that your son can check if/when his application, letters of recommendation and transcript arrive. You might want to check and see if his school offers that option.

My kids got back almost all of their self-addressed (yes, stamped) postcards for applications and letters of reference. They did send their EA/ED apps with tracking verification, I believe.

I agree send it via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation or via Fed Ex. It’s too important to take a chance.

Send it Fed-Ex - then you have an absolute paper trail - you can also confirm on line WHO signed for it and what time it was delivered. Take no chances.
