I have a Dell pocket pc. I basically use it for gps in car, watching tv, playing games and listening to music. I tried using it for notes but I decided to stick with paper.

I used to use my iPod until I got a Motorola Q smartphone which has my email and my life on it pretty much (which has saved me a million times over during heavy job/internship recruiting seasons). I think at least with the current juniors and seniors, the popularity of owning blackberries or Qs or whatever their service providers' equivalent is has risen tremendously...especially with male students (and even if i want to stereotype further, male students going down the ibanking path). i like to laugh at the campus bus at all the students scrolling through the blackberries and how we're acting so yuppy and adult and still in college.

in any case, don't get a PDA unless you can get phone/email/texts whatever... it's a piece of expensive(?) technology that you don't really need anymore.

and i still have a nice paper organizer to jot down things like class assignments and whatnot.

Stick with what has worked so far!

There will be plenty of new processes, schedules, expectations, etc. to handle the first few months. Trying to make a new org. system works at the same time sounds like a disaster waiting to happen!

And, by the time she may need something more hi-tech for interviews, etc., there will be different technology and she'll know better what functions she wants.

my 2 cents.

My roommate has a nice PDA that he puts all his powerpoint lectures on and that doubles as a planner, but as has been stated, people may as well just buy smart phones.

I make myself a calendar on excel with big boxes so i can write my "to do list" =D pretty neat!

I have a paper planner that works really well. I copy my reading assignments down and can keep track of club meetings, advisor appointments, and everything else. I like being able to write To Do lists, cross things out, circle things, and stuff like that. I don't know any students who use PDAs, but I'm sure they're out there.

all I really know about "smartphones" is that my father has one and its really cool. Internet, Email, MP3, Calander, Alarms, Phone, Game, Information Storage, etc. all in one thing.

The only problem is that if there is anything important on that phone, BACK IT UP!!! My cousin had a Treo, and lost it, and basically lost his half his LIFE. Important Emails, saved information, a majority of his music, and all scheduled appointments. Also, you should be careful about putting password and credit card information on your phone. If it is stolen, this could be a problem.
