I’m about to finish my junior year at a New England prep school. I’ve looked at many colleges—primarily small liberal arts colleges in the northeast (NESCACS + Penn LACs). Davidson would be the only school on my list that’s in the south. Academically, is Davidson similar to schools like Williams or Amherst (at least comparable)? How is the economics department? Do many students receive job offers from Wall Street companies or northeast firms (is it well known outside of NC)? How’s the diversity at Davidson? Is it mostly white upperclass kids like at some other NESCAC schools? Or is it like Wesleyan or Tufts in regards to diversity? Finally, how would a northerner acclimate to the south? They seem nicer compared to northerners.
Thanks.
Centennial Schools. Davidson is awesome. Two of my sons classmates at a progressiveHS s in Boston got shot down - Remember it’s a big marketing business!!! One kid ended up at Wesleyan, the girl ended up at Harvard.
@bosmama How does your child like Wes? It seems a lot different than Davidson (more diverse, politically minded, change the world type of kids).
Davidson is the alma mater of 23 Rhodes Scholars, one of whom was former U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk, who served in that position for most of the 1960’s under Kennedy and Johnson.
Non-whites make up at least 25% of the student body, about 6% are foreign students, and females account for about 51%. Students come from 47 states, D.C., and 38 countries.
This is a super late response ceasaretvergil! It’s not my son at Wes - it’s his buddy from High School. You are spot on very politically minded!
