Similar to Middlebury

I'm in love with Middlebury but I think it may be difficult for me to get in so I was wondering if there were any colleges like Midd. I'd prefer if they were LACs, but if there are universities that are LAC-like, that'd be great too. Thanks!

Colby, Dickinson, Union, Skidmore, Bowdoin, Colgate, Hamilton

Middlebury, Bowdoin, Dartmouth, Williams, Amherst, Colgate, Colby, Bates, Washington and Lee, and Davidson

I didn't mention certain obvious overlaps/silimar schools (e.g., Dartmouth, Williams, Amherst) because they are harder to get into than Middlebury. Davidson is surprisingly similar to Midd, but the location is totally different.

Might also look at Holy Cross, Trinity, and Bucknell. One advantage to Holy Cross is location-mid-sized city Worcester one hour from Boston. Bucknell like Colgate and Midd. is remote.

Tufts is similar to Middlebury in its strong international relations/language focus.

Holy Cross is NOTHING like Middlebury.

if the foreign-language focus at Mid is of interest, you have to have Kalamazoo on your list. A small LAC, something like 90% of the students take part in the semester-abroad program.

Tufts and Holy Cross are very different from Middlebury. What about Whitman for a Middlebury style school?

Thanks for the replies! I'll look into all the schools mentioned.

Damaris, I've looked into Whitman and didn't seem to like it much. I'm weird; I can take snow but I can't stand rain, heh.

Whitman is actually in Eastern WA. Very little rain... more snow.

You might seriously look at Davidson in North Carolina -- it's been called Middlebury with a Southern accent.

If you're talking interms of atmosphere and campus, few of the school listed are like Middlebury at all. Colby is a polar opposite, Holy Cross, Tufts, and Davidson are streches too.

I'd say Oberlin, Hamilton, Williams, Colgate, Amherst, and perhaps Dickinson or Bucknell

Add St. Lawrence for a 'safer' school with the Middlebury feel.

How is Colby a "polar opposite"? I think Colby may be one of the handfull of colleges that is most like Middlebury.

Cre8tive have you visited Oberlin, I think its the totally opposite of Middlebury, Oberlin is in closer proximity to major city and way more diverse. Middlebury falls more in line with Dartmouth, Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin in terms of student body.

oberlin is a lot more liberal than middlebury, and I don't find them to be much alike

I agree, arcadia; colby is much closer to midd than oberlin is.

IMHO Dartmouth, Williams, Colby, Bowdoin, Hamilton, Colgate, St Lawrence, Kenyon, Carleton & maybe Amherst are the closest to Middlebury.

Not sure about Bucknell & Davidson-- could be similar too.

I would second Colby, Bates, Skidmore,Amherst, Hamiton and Conn. College.

Oberlin is more liberal and St. Lawrence is in a different league academically speaking.

Hamilton, Conn College in the mix for matches/reach (if Midd is truly a reach for you). St. Lawrence a match. Skidmore is quite different in terms of student body and overall academic orientation. Amherst, Dartmouth and Williams are much more difficult to get into than Midd.
