I just visited Villanova the other week and absolutley fell in love with the campus and students. Definitely tied with Boston College on my list for #1. My only problem with BC is its way harder to get in than nova. Are there any schools that are similar to Villanova- campus, east coast, feel, academics, that i should also look at? I also loved BU. Thank you!
Fordham
Similar to BU (urban, no traditional campus): GW, NYU
Similar to BC (near urban area, Catholic, traditional campus): Fordham, Providence, Loyola MD, Catholic U (I don’t know much about this school but it may be worth looking into) and perhaps Holy Cross (although I’m not sure the location in Worcester is what you are looking for.) I do think that many Jesuit Colleges could fit the bill so go through the list here to look for geographic/academic matches. http://www.ajcunet.edu/institutions/
Lehigh and Princeton maybe?
I loved providence when i visited. Im interested in Lehigh, but im counting Princeton out of the equation- just too difficult. Fordham has caught my attention recently and i want to go visit it soon. I will check out the Jesuit schools.
Catholic U in DC is really really Catholic. Which is great if that’s what you’re looking for. But they also discriminate against LGBT population. They don’t give funding to that student group (or didnt in the recent past) and in the past they forced the theater group to perform Angels In American off campus. That sort of thing.
Jesuit schools tend to be more liberal minded and accepting.
Also Check out on the West Coast Santa Clara. It’s great.
St. Mary’s of CA is also nice.
@Dustyfeathers – Didn’t know that about Catholic U. Thank you for that information.
Bucknell, Lehigh, Richmond, Holy Cross
Somewhat less competitive choice might be Marist.
Santa Clara caught my eye also. I’ve heard amazing things about it. I’ve been looking at holy cross right now, it seems great. Any thoughts on holy cross?
An excellent Jesuit college. Your other choices were in larger cities, but HC is a great school.
How about wake forest? Everyone says it’s very similar to villanova
When we visited, U of Dayton reminded both my son and me quite a bit of Villanova. Catholic but not Jesuit (Marianists).
I want to get out of Midwest, so I haven’t really checked on Dayton.
Definitely Holy Cross, also Fordham, Providence, Loyola Maryland, Fairfield. All good schools with similar vibes, and a range of admission difficulty.
@xhaavic any schools in midwest i should consider with the same credentials?
Creighton?
Marquette, Xavier, Loyola-Chicago, Creighton are Jesuit colleges in the Midwest. Perhaps also look into Wash U St. Louis.
Wash U is extremely hard to get into I think right?
