Can anyone give me some insight on Simmons? I'm interested in the school and applied RD a month ago.

I want to major in Int'l Relations and Simmons offers IR. From what I've read on the website, it sounds like an interesting major.

How is Simmons with financial aid? FA will be an important factor in my final decision. I'm planning to visit Simmons some time next week. IF I am accepted and choose to attend Simmons, I actually plan to live on campus the first two years (to get oriented and whatnot) and than live off-campus (my cousins' house is only 15 minutes away from campus). Is it a commuter school? I've heard that there isn't a great "college feel" to it.

Simmons is not a commuter school. It is a campus in a city, but there is a residential quad with college dorms surrounding a greenspace, and a 5 minute walk to the academic campus.
There has been quite a bit of building on the academic campus especially during the past decade. I disagree about the statement about a lack of “college feel.” No, it isn’t located on a 100 acre campus in the suburbs. It’s in Boston. That’s one of the great things about it.

The IR major is fairly new, but I agree that it looks quite interesting. I don’t have any insight into their FA, but if you are visiting next week, why don’t you stop in at the FA office and ask them about it.

Their FA is not outstanding & we have received a couple FA packages from Simmons over the years, so that is our experience. So no one enrolled. It always depends on how badly they want you to enroll, of course! Check it out & if interested apply & apply for financial aid as well, see what happens! Simmons seems to change Presidents quite a bit.

Simmons is not a commuter school. It’s part of a consortium called Colleges of the Fenway. Here’s a link: [Colleges of the Fenway](http://www.colleges-fenway.org/). Simmons is best known in the Boston area for its library science program and its management degree–especially the graduate management program. My H worked for a large, Boston bank and that bank recruited quite a few Simmons’ women from the MBA program. A close friend of D2 started at Simmons but transfered because she wanted a bigger campus. She said it was hard to meet people (I think that meant guys). I don’t know about FA, but I would agree with the posters who’ve suggested that you go and speak to the FA people while you are on campus.

And the particular part of Boston it’s in is one of the particularly great things about it. You couldn’t ask for a better area of the city to be a college student in. It’s near everything–museums, concert halls, restaurants, nightclubs, Fenway Park, lots of greenery and paths for biking/running etc.

momof3sons and slumom–how do you all know so much about Simmons? My D was just accepted their and I have had a hard time finding anyone on cc who knows anything about. I’ve posted questions on the Simmons page and have gotten very, very few responses. We have just sent them the FAFSA. They don’t use Profile, which was the first clue that they probably don’t give much aid, but D got a nice merit scholarship offer with her acceptance. Of course, it will only cover about 1/3 of the total cost.

My daughter was considering it for a short time, but we read that the FA wasn’t very good and she would need a lot and she decided she didn’t want to go to a women’s college. She was interested in business at the time. She did have a friend that transfered after a year to a business program at her state school for more opportunites but she said many students there loved it.
Google Simmons reviews and sites will pop up, college prwler, student reviews, etc. just for a broad view on the college.

I just graduated from Simmons and I loved it.

I received adequate FA and I commuted. You do miss out on some of the experiences when you commute but that would be the case at ANY college.

Simmons is the best of both worlds - you get a small, women only, college with greenery, etc but then you get the experiences of being in the city, being part of the COF.
