^at Stonybrook. Who's applying this year?

I am. I was wondering exactly how I should outline my coursework.

I am too! What do you mean by outlining your coursework? There is a spot on part one (the online form) for “classes taken, fall 2012” and “to be taken, spring 2013” which I think can just be lists with the names of classes since your “school official” is supposed to submit an official transcript too.

Have you guys pre-arranged for mentors at Stonybrook?

Ooh sorry I was looking at the wrong application. And I haven’t. That’s not a problem, right?

For the essay “What question or problem regarding the physical and/or natural world are you most interested in, or would you most like to see answered?”

Can/Should I write about:

a) Improvement of Energy sources using molecular/nano application
b) Blood Brain Barrier

@srilankar333 Those both sound like perfectly valid topics to me! I don’t see why not.

Is it true that this program is heavily favored toward NY schools? There’s only 1-3 from my state each year. Will it hurt that I’m not from NY?

yeah, i was wondering the same thing as SignatureCC
i looked at some of the participants from last years and no one from my state has ever been in the program (i’m from IL)
also, does anyone know how the experience is at Simons?

It seems to be a top notch program. The fact that 18/ ~30 were Intel Semifinalists suggests that there is a fairly high quality of research. I just hope that being outside of NY doesn’t drive my chances down the gutter.

lol its 1am and i still haven’t finished the short responses, haven’t even started the essay

honestly, i am at a loss for what i should do about the essay. do you think it’s important to demonstrate your depth of knowledge in choosing the question/problem and explaining it? because at this point, i have a some fairly generic ones that i don’t really know that much about.

It might still be a little early, but I was expecting them to send out an email confirming that they got my completed application by now. Just wondering if any of you got that email.

Yep, I got that email on Friday. I believe my teacher mailed the app a couple days early though.

My S, or rather his school, sent in his application on Jan 15. He has not received anything as yet from them. Should he expect to receive an ack?

Has anyone who applied for this summer received any feedback? Acceptance? Rejection?

No word yet.

I received an inquiry last week as to whether I was still interested in the lab I mentioned in my application, but that was all. Anyone else have any update?

No updates for me, unfortunately.

@jamini, congrats on having some extent of feedback. From the way the inquiry was worded, did it seem as if you were accepted?

which lab did you ask for jamini?

No indication… it was very direct. Just asked if I was still interested in the biological lab I had mentioned in my application. Hope they tell us one way or another soon :)!
