@jamini what does your aunt think of Simons vs ssp? I am still not sure what I should do
Does anyone know if Simons participants get weekends off or free time in general? Thanks!
I’d definitely pick SSP over Simons, personally. Best of luck.
hmm i have no real idea about ssp besides the fact that you do astronomy there
what’s the fascination abotu this programM???
wow i didn’t know there were so many people interested in astronomy! not many in our school haha
It seems that most of the intel semis and finalists live somewhat locally and are able to commute to stony brook during the year to continue with their projects… That makes me hesitant about the program. If I could, I’d prefer to do research in state. More of a chance of winning.
^^ The Simons Fellow who just came in 2nd place for Intel STS ($75,000) lives in CA.
@BasedBioGod Were you accepted ? Are you going? Anyone not hear yet?
I got a “likely letter” a couple weeks ago and now I got an official acceptance letter! Congrats to everyone else! Look forward to meeting you guys!
@Multiverse7 Yes i remember you from rsi forum
Simons is great, but i’ll keep my options open
^^ Congrats!
i’m still waiting to hear from Clark Scholars…whose decisions come out mid april
I’m thikning simons over clark, especially since i already have an arranged mentor but anyone know much about clark vs simons?
Simons isn’t free though
Is anyone going to organize a Facebook group for Simons 2015 this year?
@debate4ever Simons pays you $1000. If u want summer housing on campus you have to pay for that. But the program costs nothing and you earn $1000.
Who on this thread is definitely going to Simons? Is there a Facebook group for Simons 2015 yet?
@Astros12 I’m definitely going. Emailing the directors with the acceptance and getting their response was a really nice feeling. I also applied for SSP, but due to how great of an experience I think Simons will be and my not-so-huge interest in astronomy, picking Simons was pretty much a no-brainer. And no, as per my previous post, there’s no group yet.
@vishmum were you accepted? It’d be great to have another Virginian there
I’m 95% sure I’m going. 8-}
Has anyone contacted/been contacted by his/her mentor?
@Astros12 Yes, but only because I reached out first. You should find their email pretty easily by doing a google search and finding their faculty page on the Stony Brook website. Mine has already talked about potential projects, etc. so I’m really excited! I recommend that you reach out.
