Hi, I'm applying to the Simons Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University (simons page). I have a question about Part A of the essay/short answer section of the application:

"A. DESCRIBE YOUR PRIOR RESEARCH EXPERIENCE. Include research-oriented courses you may have taken. Tell us about any computer/mechanical skills you have that may be helpful in a laboratory setting. Be specific about the nature of your research experience(s) and your responsibilities. Did the experience lead to the writing of report or participation in a competition?"

The part of the prompt I don't understand is "Tell us about any computer/mechanical skills you have that may be helpful in a laboratory setting." What kinds of computer/mechanical skills are they looking for? If you've worked with computers a lot, could you give me some examples? I am pretty sure I don't have these skills but I at least need to know what they are so I can phrase my response carefully.

I would appreciate some prompt responses because I have to send in my app soon. Thanks so much!
