Simons Summer Science PRogram

Has anyone heard about the Simons summer science program at SUNY Stonny Brook?
I applied to it this year...

how hard is it to get in? what's the quality of the program? any comments?

A friend and cousin of mine got into it last year (from different states, CA and MA if it matters...)

My friend didn't go, but I remember she had stats of like a 3.4, 4.0ish weighted. She was like in the 30s in rank. She wasn't even that into science or math. She was involved with our robotics team, but on the administrative side. She, basically, besides being president of science club (which got her the nomination) didn't do anything.

My cousin did go. She had about a 3.7 UW and 4.1 W. She was really quiet. She wasn't involved in school or anything. She used to just sit in class and do homework, and never really talk to people. Erm, she did get 3rd or 4th place in science fair. That's it. She said it was an okay program. She said she didn't really like the atmosphere (with the other participants), but she said her time would have been better spent taking community college classes....but, in defense of the program, I don't think she was into science that much, anyways.

So, I don't know personally, but I hope that helps.

The application deadline was in January.

i know, I already applied to it...ust curious..
from the description, it sounded like one of the most demanding/prestigious science research programs out there.
I also applied to Garcia center's program. How are those 2 compared since they're all directed by Stonny Brook?
However, Garcia is much more expensive than Simons...

how is Simons compared to Garcia program, Clark Scholars Program, and Summer Science Program?

no one?????

anyone...........?

I also applied to the simons summer research program.

I have heard very good things about it from my teachers, peers, and just browsing.

I just really want the research experience.

What did you list as your what you wanted to research.

My problem is I really dont have research experience. Otherwise, I love science. And I rocked the recommendations.
PM me

I have no research experience too :(
unless you count the science fair I'm doing for the 1st time this year, heck, it's in mathematics.

PM me :D

I heard garcia is a great program

Any1 else applied/went to the program?

i applied... it seems a great program; $1000 stipend, research... but why is it so unknown? does it have like a weird reputation that anyone cares to share?

did anyone hear back? i got the rejection letter yesterday. GAHHH.

And It Was So Curt And Typical Too. But At Least She Signed It Herself.

so they mail their decisions?
I'm on spring break...used my boarding school address.
that means I'll have to wait till Mar 27 to see :(

Anyone else get their decision?

I know I didn't.

I hate to do this, but...
BUMP

so nervous of the decision :S

So am I!
:)

I heard back from the Director of Simons via email about 2 weeks ago.. I got accepted. I have been trying to figure out what mentor I want and stuff like that. A big problem I've encountered though is that the professor who really liked my application and wanted me to work for him, has this deep hatred for Intel and science competitions... so I don't know what to do. I'm going to probably look for mentors other than the ones she gave me.
