Hi I'm an incoming freshman, so this may be an incredibly stupid question to the rest of you. I'm looking at Fall 2013 classes online, and for some classes, all the discussions' max capacities added together is much less than the lecture's max capacity. So while the lecture would have open spaces, all the discussions would be full. I don't understand. Help please!

What class are you looking at? I suspect the registrar/departments will open more spots as time passes.

@phospholipase, for example, CHICANO 10A Intro to Chicana/Chicano Studies still has over 100 spots left in lecture, but all the open discussions added together only have 25-30 spots left. But your suggestion seems pretty likely. Thank you!

Last year’s data shows that each discussion section had 31-32 enrollment capacity. There are probably seats being held right now for upcoming orientation sessions. A lot of weird things happen for fall enrollment because incoming students don’t enroll until the summer, while returning students enrolled a few months ago. The number of seats will probably subtly increase in the near future as orientation sessions take place. It’s common for some sections to increase in size unannounced. You just have to check periodically for updates.

^ I agree. Discussions gradually go from closed to open as they get through the orientation sessions. I remember during mine 2 years ago, they actually opened 2 more discussions for chem 20A, during the actual enrollment period
