Does berkeley have priority housing as in the sooner i submit my app and fee, the more likely i will get my housing choices? Or is it based on a lottery like UCLA?

Lottery 10char

it’s based on a lottery

everyone who signs up no later than the deadline is in a pool and assigned a random position. They take your list of priorities for housing and fill the highest priority one still open, once they get to your number in the processing sequence from #1 to the last applicant.

is it true that most of the dorms smells like weed or with smoke daily…?
i just cant stand the smell of it…i try to avoid it at high school in the restrooms, and i dont want to live 2 years of my life at a place where smoking in dorms and the fumes frequently occur…can someone tell mee…

if dont care if poeple smoke, but it is just the smell that kills me…

Some of the dorms do smell like weed occasionally. Depends on the people living on the floor and that changes pretty much every year.

If you prefer a drug-free environment, you can apply to stay at Freeborn Hall in Unit 1. It’s a designated substance-free environment.

I think technically drug use is not allowed in all the residence halls but this rule is rarely enforced. You can always ask your RA to enforce it if the smell bothers you; but this might not endear you to the rest of your floormates.

which dorm is well known for this and which resident hall is less known for this? and also…

i want to live in a suite, so can i reserve my spot in a suite?

I never had a problem with this when I lived in Foothill. The location tended to yield more students who have studies that don’t give them enough time to use excessive amounts of weed.

However, if you have truly made up your mind that you’re going to be substance free and want the guarantee that it’s not going to happen, Freeborn is a great option. Just keep in mind that this usually doesn’t apply until you’ve actually gone through a period of experimentation; otherwise, you might just accidentally break the rules.
