Simple Math (SAT I) Question- HELP!!!!!!!!!

Can someone help me understand these questions?? They are...

If K(2X+3)(X-1) = 0 and x > 1, what is the value of K?
(A) -3/2
(B) 0
(C) 2/3
(D) 1
(E) 2
The answer is B.

If n and p are integers greater than 1 and if p is a factor of both n + 3 and n + 10, what is the value of p?
(A) 3
(B) 7
(C) 10
(D) 13
(E) 30
The answer is D.

Why are these answers correct????

for the first one, 2x-3 or x-1 can't be 0 if x>1, so k=0

the second one is b, not d. 10-3=7. So p must be div by 7. 7 is prime, sp p = 1 or 7. p>1, so p=7.
