Simple quick question about PROFILE

I just want to make sure. I can estimate figures conservatively and then send a corrected version to CB or the schools after we get all the tax forms and information, right?

The profile does not allow for corrections, However, the college board will collect the W-2's and 2004 tax information from you and your parents, so it will be looked at the financial aid office

so guess and then get the data to send to colleges. what's the point of doing the PROFLE this early if it is just estimates and guesses if we are to turn in the forms later?

wait we HAVE to send forms to the college board??

My mom can't even guess all the numbers the profile asks for. So we just wasted money on the registration and stuff. Oh well. Hopefully neither of my 2 schools that require the Profile for aid need it for merit aid too, or else I shouldn't have even bothered applying to them.

fill out the Profile now using 2003 tax return numbers, print a copy, then correct by sending tax returns for 2004 either to the school or to IDOCs. You do it now, basically, to save a spot in line and I think the schools begin to plan, then adjust with your real totals.

somemom's right. If you've already completed the Profile, you update it by sending a copy of the original, corrected by hand, to each school via snail mail. Syawn, don't send forms to the College Board - they won't forward them to your schools.

The hand-correcting thing sounded bizarre to me when I read about it on CC earlier this week, but it's accurate. Here's what the profile website says:

"If any of your information has changed significantly, it is not possible to make changes or to add to your online application now that it has been submitted. Cross out the incorrect information and write the correct information in the same box. Explain changes on the bottom of the last page or attach pages as necessary. Next photocopy this document and send copies to your colleges and programs. "

Not very high tech, is it? Especially when you consider how easily the FAFSA can be updated online. Makes me wonder what we're paying the CB $18 a pop for!
