SIMR 2012 -- Stanford Inst. of Med. Summer Research Program

grrr…waiting is too stressful.

I was already rejected from three summer programs so I’m not expecting too much… But I just want to know already!

^^^

Really? Which three did you apply to? I wonder how they select the applicants.

Jackson Labs, J. Craig Venter Institute, and Rockefeller. I was also waitlisted at UF SSTP. Agghh… I’m still waiting on a few programs but this is not looking good.

ouch i only applied 2 simr…

I have research experience, founder/president of red cross club, on the science bowl team, AP math/science classes, 2190 SAT, 222 psat, 4.0 uw/4.2 weighted, in top 1% of class at a top bay area public, volunteer at a convalescent hospital, treasurer/president-elect of leo club, work as a math tutor, and intern at a nutrition database.

I thought I had a chance at something, but so far…nope. It’s okay though, I wouldn’t mind just keeping the jobs I’m working now and taking a CC class over the summer. More time with friends :)

ok, my chances at simr are 0 Im no where near as qualified as you
what did u write 4 ur essays

where did u get research experience from?

Hey well something clearly isn’t appealing to admissions about me, so don’t count yourself out! I interned through the Knowledge Exchange Institute’s PreCollege Summer Abroad Program at a microbiology lab in Thailand last summer. Last summer was the last year of the program, though :frowning: They don’t seem to be offering it this year.

I’ve done some research as an intern…but nothing substantial. Hoping that my essays will make me stand out :)

Where did everyone get research experience from :(

I have to reply to some programs before simr comes out; but none are nearly as good as SIMR, so Im in a huge dillemma. Luckily im in cal, so if simr does what it did last year, i may find out before it is too late…

What did SIMR do last year? :open_mouth: Early responses?

wait… what did simr do last year? I hope early responses, gah.

Look up the SIMR 2011 page on collegeconfidential. People in California got calls earlier than April 8, when they were supposed to be notified. Im hoping that they will notify people in California a week, but the likelihood of that is minimal.

a week early I meant

I’m in California so that would be fantastic.

Yeah, same =) Do they notify you by phone even if you were rejected?

^I hope not. Can you imagine the awkwardness of that phone call?

“Hi so I’m just calling to inform you that we don’t want you in our summer program. Best of luck with your life, especially given those mediocre stats.”

LOLOL, just checking xD

That would be quite terrible indeed…
