@thatswhatitis I do not, but I had relatives in the area. Nevertheless, I spoke to several NIH interns (minors), who were OOS. They informed me that NIH directly worked with them to find affordable, local housing options. So, I highly doubt housing would be an issue, unlike SIMR apparently… Good luck on you application and focus on getting in first!

Back to SIMR, does anyone know if we are allowed to update our applications with awards/honors AFTER the deadline?

Furthermore, according to previous SIMR threads, applicants attached supplemental material including research papers and abstracts. Are we allowed to do this? I don’t remember seeing a spot for this on the application…

Do you guys know of any good backup, “safety” programs that are more forgiving when it comes to acceptance, but still provide a valuable experience? All the programs I have in mind right now are pretty prestigious

@Nanotech123 I know we aren’t allowed to attach any supplementary materials this year because of the increased amount of applicants. Not sure about awards after the deadline, but I doubt it.

Would it be a disadvantage if I only uploaded my ACT score for the SIMR application?

For SIMR, does an official transcript need to be mailed? Or just self-reporting the GPA?
I checked the application online and it said it’s okay if the transcript is unofficial. Also, you can’t submit anything after the deadline
Hi guys, I’m applying to simr all the way from Pakistan. Luckily I am a us citizen so my application shouldn’t be a problem.
I gave my SATs in Jan and am awaiting the results but I know I did horribly in them. I’m expecting sub 2100 results, which I know are really bad. I’m not like this at school do you guys think I should submit my sat score with my application or just leave it out. Has anyone not submitted it and gotten in?
Hello,
My son is applying for SIMR this summer too. We live in East Palo Alto if anyone needs a room & board we can offer it. We have a newer home we a big bedroom with a private bath meals. We have 2 teenage sons so… Yes cable and play stations. I work at the local high school. $1000. For the length of the program. Nachos4@msn.com
Hi everyone. I’m a high school Junior applying to SIRM. Can you guys look at my stats and see if I qualify academically?
UW GPA: 4.0
W GPA: 4.385
SAT I: I’m waiting for the Jan SAT results. I’m aiming for 2300+ but haven’t studied too much so I’m retaking in March But I think I scored around low-mid 2200?
SAT II: Chem 780 ( was going to retake but many people advised me not to. does anyone know if my imperfect score would detract me from acceptance?)
APs: 4-AP Human Geo (Self study)
4- AP Euro
5- AP Chem
Classes: I’ve taken the highest level classes that my competitive public school offers. I’m not including an entire list, but I so far I have taken/ am taking Honors Eng (9,10) Alg 2 Hnrs, Pre-Calc Hnrs, AP Euro, AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Calc AB, APUSH, AP Psych, AP Eng Lang; I have also taken extra classes such as Biotech.
Awards: Our school doesn’t offer class awards any more. They are only within special classes such Music and ROTC. I have a few awards, but they don’t seem too significant.
ECs: Hospital Volunteer (+55hrs/yr), Church volunteer (at least 50 hrs), Music group volunteer (at least 100 hrs), Officer/Leadership positions in organizations that pertain to my interests (Pre-Med, Science and Engineering, etc.) I have also done research internships at two highly recognized hospitals/ research centers in the previous summer. I am also working with other students at my school to get a research paper published. We are also presenting this research during the summer to professionals in nutrition.
Rec letters: I think I’ll get good letters because the teachers and doctor I am asking are good friends and they were the ones who offered to write me one.
Will family economic standing be an issue taken into consideration? Also if you are applying to SIRM, how many other programs are you applying to? And if you don’t mind, can I know which ones they are? I want to see if I’m applying to too many or too little. You guys can ask me any questions as well. If I remember to check I will definitely answer any questions! Thanks!
Please help out a fellow Junior
I have a question: are we allowed to ask for more than one recommendation letter? Because the application said you can only ask for one…
@Sherim1004: where are you from? I’m applying, too, and I have similar stats, but I’m pretty sure I’m from an underrepresented state in SIMR admissions.
I applied to RSI, Simons, and Jackson Labs. I will be applying for an in-state internship, SIMR, WSRAP, and ISSYP.
How about you?
I’m a sophomore so this may seem kind of early, but I’m just curious if I’m on the right path at the moment.
My Stats:
Sophomore, Asian male
UW GPA: 3.8
Honors/AP Courses: Chinese 4H, AP Chinese, AP Comp Sci, PreCalc H, Physics H
PSAT: 208
SAT ll Bio: 750(M I think)
ECs:
-Varsity Badminton Team for 2 years
-Math Competitions(Perfect Score on the AMC 10, AIME: 11, USAJMO qualification)
-Voluneering at WCEO Organization( about 100 hours each year so I will get Presidential Service Award)
-Math and Science Club(2 years)
-Science Olympiad Club(1 year, school got 5th place at regional competition)
-Physics Olympiad Semifinalist
Do I have a good chance?
^^ yes definitely. Bring your gpa and standardized test scores up but your olympiad experience is much more impressive because while lots of peop have good gpa, test scores. few have a PERFECT SCORE ON AMC10. You’re a super impressive applicant
I want to apply to SIMR, but I don’t know if my stats are good enough:
SAT I: 2000 (I took the November one, but I am retaking in March)
SAT Biology Subject Test: 740
SAT Math 2: 720 (Also plan on retaking it)
PSAT: 205
UW GPA: 3.92
W GPA: 4.44
Science classes taken: Accelerated Biology, Honors Chemistry, AP Biology (currently taking)
Math classes taken: Algebra 2, Honors Precalc/Trig, AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics (currently taking)
Also, I live in the Bay Area, CA. Not sure if location makes any difference though.
And should I put my SAT score on my SIMR application or should I only put my PSAT since it’s better?
Thanks.
Random question, but does being from the East Coast help at all? Since I am assuming most applicants are from the bay area, I was hoping maybe it could be considered a hook or something? idk. I have family that lives around 20 minutes away from Stanford so housing is no problem.
Guys I got a 2170 in my January sat. I didn’t take a PSAT. Do you think I should include my SAT score or leave it out?
Sorry for the late reply! I have been so busy these last weeks. I will be applying to a local lab that I worked at during the summer. I am also searching/asking around for other summer programs. My AP Chem teacher wants to recommend me to this chemistry research summer program for the underprivileged once she receives a letter from them so I will be applying to that as well. I am not exactly sure what it is called. And perhaps one or two free local programs if I am not too busy. And i am from Socal! So I doubt that helps me haha.
What are we supposed to say for the bioengineering bootcamp question on the institute preferences section if we’re not interested in it?
^I had that same question too, all my friends and I just put the last bubble
I’m applying to SIMR too. I’m from the midwest, though there’s probably no geographical advantage at all concerning this program. It’s cool to see you all here! (Also, any HS seniors here?)
Anyone think I have a good shot? Not that much science stuff
