As the question says above, is it possible to apply to all three of those places? Harvard is my number 1 choice but its early policy is really ambiguous (i did read their website). If its not possible to do MIT, can i still do Harvard and UVA?

You should probably write to Harvard and get a written response so it is official. As I read it, it appears clear that Harvard has actually adopted something that is not what you think single choice early action usually is. My reading of its instructions is that you are prohibited from applying early decision elsewhere and from applying to other “single choice” early action colleges but you can apply EA elsewhere to non-single choice EA colleges which include MIT and UVa. If Harvard is now saying orally otherwise then it has a very serious problem that amounts to a misrepresentation and better correct its website promptly because thousands of students will believe they can apply EA elsewhere.

I agree its website is confusing that is why I called. I specifically asked if I could apply to MIT and Harvard at the same time and received no as the answer.

With Harvard SCEA, you cannot apply for MIT EA for sure. As many state universities require you apply early in order for their scholarship consideration. Most SCEA schools let you apply for state university EA. Harvard should allow you to apply for UVA EA.

Dragon: Harvard’s EA isn’t a clone nor is as definitive as those of Yale, Stanford and PTon’s SCEA. If you look at H’s website – they seem to indicate a less restrictive brand than those other three. Frankly, it’s poorly worded and confusion like this is bound to continue.

T: I hope you are right and we can apply MIT EA at the same time :). Based on what I heard from the previous H SCEA (though years ago), it is the same as the other three.
