Is anybody else applying? I was stumped by some of the problems but it was fun working on them anyways. How many problems do you think one would need to solve to have a strong application?

It was a few years ago when my friend did simuw. She solved one problem correctly and got in. I’m guessing that not only is the application about ‘right answers’, but ‘showing your work’. They probably want to see how your brain thinks and how you approach problems.

I thought this was going have something to do with The Sims!

I went to SIMUW in 2009 and hoping to go again this summer. It was absolutely awesome. I answered 7 of the questions, but wasn’t sure of the approach on one.

Glad to see SIMUW on CC :-)

Wow, nice, and thanks for the information. I was only able to get 4 of the problems, and one was through calculus which I feel they wouldn’t like. Oh well, it’s out of my hands now :p

Yeah, they really just want to see how you tackle the problems. I attempted all the problems and I definitely know I didn’t get all of them right. If you showed lots of thoughtful work, then they’ll be impressed. It really wouldn’t be realistic if you got all the questions right anyway.

Good luck! SIMUW is definitely worth applying to; free tuition and $1000 alloted for food! Plus free maid service for the dorm rooms! hahaha But seriously, the people you will meet there and the math you will encounter will be beyond amazing!

(I was a 2010 SIMUW participant btw ^.^)
