Since everyone else is doing it

HOw are my chances of getting into BU Reg D?

1870 out of 2400. Verbal 620 and Math 660 on SAT I
500 on SAT II U.S History
Plan on taking SAT II MATH I
using the collegeboard scale my GPA is a 3.3???
MY grades frst quarter as a senior are a mixture of mostly D’s and C’s with one or two B’s and of course an A in gym ahaha. I have 7 classes btw
but this is because from 4 honors classes I jumped to 3 Honors and 2 AP’s. I’m having a hard time getting by. Im hoping colleges will see I’m challenging myself. But I’m afraid they might think I was careless.

My EC. I dont have alot
Boston marathon
Film Club
vacation bible school
stock club
JSA
Anatomy club
Drama club
literary magazine
writer’s block

First generation college student

I plan to major in film. I found out only 5% of students have film as their major. Would that help me get in?

Also does it matter how good your SAT II scores are?

Um, I'd say your chances are pretty slim. Have you considered CGS?

And I believe dogs made a whole thread about how to determine this so people would stop making these threads--nobody can really say except the admissions officers.

But my teachers are mentioning me majoring in film in their reccomendations. So wouldn't that be a little suspicious if I were to apply for CGS?

You'd be better off in CGS because film is in COM and COM's standards are higher than CAS (regular BU) and you aren't there. But if you go through CGS, which is 2 years, you can then transfer into COM for your major.

Not at all--you do all your core classes in CGS for your first two years, then you transfer to the college within BU of your choice for your remaining 2 years. You will still graduate with a BU degree in film, you just take your general education courses in CGS.

Make sure you explain about senior year. If you have "talent" in an art like film and that is mentioned in the references I am wondering if anyone knows if that makes a difference. I think for music majors their talent is as much of a factor as scores so long as they are in the ballpark. COM is tougher to get into though so apply to COM and maybe mention you are willing to do CGS for the first two yrs if you don't get in to COM. That's just a guess so let's see what others have to offer.

All the other colleges want a 5 minute video if you want to major in film. Such as Syracuse and NYU.

I was hoping the video would boost my chances because so far everyone including film and drama advisors, not only like it but LOVE it.

Sadly BU doesn't require it...

btw sorry for the double posting

Hate to say this but BU, like most schools, won't look at your reel. If you've won some award, had some regular tv show on local cable or something that shows on your resumé, they look at that. But not at extra stuff like a reel.

But what if it is really amazing? Wouldn't they look at the video and consider it? Especially if its someone at BU's Com/Film Dept.?

1280/1600 isn't "bad". I assume your writing score brought it down so good thing its still being considered lightly. If you took a Writing SAT 2 would you expect to bring it up? What do you mean by "using the college board scale"? What is your school W and UW GPA?

You really need to explain the senior yr grades and do your best to bring them up by the end of the semester. All schools that request or require SAT 2s will look at them. I agree that CGS could be a better fit for you then you can join all the film type BU clubs to keep learning until you transfer to COM Jr year. You have a shot though.

I can tell you directly that COM Film people aren't involved in the admissions process the way they are at Tisch - where you have to be admitted by a Tisch department and NYU generally. The BU film degree is a Bachelor of Science not a BFA.

Bah. my college choices are NYU BU Syracuse and Ithaca.
If I dont get into any of them I'll probably go to New York Film Academy for a year and then reapply to NYU.

You should have a good shot at Syracuse and Ithaca.

that's the best thing I've heard all year lol.
