How strict is the 1000 word rule?! I'm 9 words extra right now and want to make sure this will fly. I don't want like these 9 words getting cut off my personal statement because my conclusion sentences are so strong! Is this ai'ght or should I edit the 9 words to be safe? Please give me immediate input!

The fact that it allows you to enter over 1000 words is quite telling.

There are at least 2 other threads dedicated to this topic, all with sufficient ideas for this predicament. I would suggest checking those out.

9 words- come on, they're not going to care.

yeah i wonder about that too...i messed around got up to 1023 and the thing didnt say anything. yet when you do the EC description part it tells you right away when you hit the limit

can any 2010ers give us any insights on this, please!!!

we, current applicants, can only guess w/o knowing the final result.
i'm kinda scare that UCs would reject me for refusing to follow clearly stated directions on the app.

UCs will not reject you for a few words over the limit on the application.

Most likely they won't need to read the essay if your test scores and HS GPA are good enough. This happens more likely at UCSD with their point system.

Cal will read the essay, but a couple words over won't matter. That's not going to reject you, something else would, if they choose to do so.

what's that something else?

^^bad test scores, bad grades..
