I applied to mcGill, so chill guys, but I figured that most of you who applied to mcGill also applied to UofT xor Queen's.

I couldn't believe that queens only has 270 spots for management...outta 3700 APPS!!

Do u guys think I'll get in to that?
They already took me for Biology (my fallback and just in case i wanted to go premed) but here are the stats...

1600
800,800,780,760
3 fives on APs, including French
top 1-2% of 300, of a very competitive HS
National Merit Semi, but getting kicked out because of (see line below)
Canadian living in PA, but not a perm resident of US.

Attended gov school.

More atheltic than musical.
Plaques, Varsity letters from two sports, including division champs fo XC, similar stuff for vball. Also did track.

I speak 3 languages.

I'm in a bunch of clubs, I'm esp math/science oriented. Bunch of school awards for blah blah blah...but those don't really matter.

Also, U of T...I chose Trinity college, is that a wise choice?

Congratulations on Queen's. How do you know you are accepted? Did they send a snail mail letter or email?

As of about 5 days ago, I can see on the ASQ site " University Decision: OFFERED- YEAR 1 Bachelor of Arts (Honours)" but I have not received any formal notification yet.

As for Commerce, you seem well qualified. Interesting, isn't it, that the Commerce program is more selective than Harvard.

rolls eyes If you don't get in, who will?? your stats are amazing. ;)

I didn't apply to either Queens or U of T, but I hear that Trinity college is a good way to go. It's the one I've heard the most frequently talked about, and seems to be well regarded.

Thanks harpsgirl, oh btw, if u see a bunch of middle schoolers bouncing around in MOntreal around a tour guide speaking English, they're from my school...
Anyway, I was confident at first, but then I saw the less than 8% admit rate for commerce and went aghast.

To Americanacakidd:
Queen's website tells you how many spots there are to fill.
Engineering isn't as hard to get into as Commerce. It is prob the same as the sciences?
Not sure, you should check on their website.

i asked mcgill about that, and they said the canadian citizens will be competing against american students. they'll consider us americans until it comes time for the tuition, there we luck out. i was looking at the viewbook and it said it accepts 4.6% from the US. so mcgill has like 20 000 ppl? that means approximately 920 americans. divide that by 4 for incoming freshmen will be 230. mcgill's entire international population is 17.6% so US students are 26% of internationals. faculty of science has 400 internationals so maybe 104 americans kids for all four years. management has 219 internationals so that's about 56 americans. so does that mean they take about 26 kids for science and 14 for management. can anybody verify my calculations? cause 26 and 14 doesn't sound too promising to me

The minimum scores used last year are readily available on line. If everything is in place and on time, you know where you stand unless you are trying for a particularly selective program or need to do an audition.

BTW, many more applicants will be "admitted" than actually decide to attend. You can probably find these statistics if you care to. Also, there are over 24,000 students at McGill (another thing you can look up).

Here's some real acceptance data from 3 high schools (your HS probably keeps this information too in the guidance office). Look up any college you want, including McGill, and you'll really understand your chances.

yeah, open house...didn't realize that was this weekend. haha..I'm a moron. With the big sign hanging over the roddick gates and everything. Anyway if any of you guys are going to be around and want an informal tour or whatever, just shoot me an e-mail or private message :)

so far we're 2/2 for class of 2009 redmen/martlets--hang in there guys!

*more US students apply now than in 2001
*Those who attend are a much smaller number than are admitted
*honestly, how many US students consider Canada anyway?

Don't freak yourselves out with numbers like that. rely on their averages and such on the website.

however, alternately, it is an interesting indication of diversity. U of T apparently doesn't have a very large american student population. How does that compare to other internationals, or to Canadians? are they a diverse campus or mainly canuck? it could be something to look into, if that sort of thing is important to you :)

At UofT: These days there are over 40,000 undergraduates, I've seen numbers as high as 50,000. Off the top of my head, I think I saw that there are about 4100 Americans in Canadian universities; there are about 2500 Americans at McGill and there are 600 at Queen's. That would only leave about 1000 at all other schools combined. I was surprised that a school as big as UofT would have such a tiny number of Americans. I'm not pointing this out as an indicator of UofT's acceptance rate of Americans. As far as I know, Canadian schools are seeking US students; McGill & Queens recruit at our HS.
