Jennings A/c is super cold…gainesville can be really hot in the summer and fall since it does not get ocean breezes at all. Jennings A/C is the best…better than Broward. It is just across the street from Broward, so the walk is about another city block from Jennings to Broward. Broward is super close to classes that most freshman take. Both dorms are great Freshman dorms…social and mostly freshman so you can meet lots of friends.

that’s awesome jankrav! thanks so much!

So are you basically screwed of getting the good dorms if you haven’t submitted your $25 deposit? I hadn’t originally planned to going to UF until after touring the place (and loving it) and saw later that I got in. In addition, I didn’t see the point in depositing if you didn’t know whether you got in our not, but still I’m sending it tommarrow.

But is it better think of your major when getting a dorm? If so what dorms would be good for a Biology major?

Bee579, I have the same problem. I’ve yet to tour UF and was pretty apathetic at the prospect of getting in, but now I’ve been thinking about it. FSU seems awesome, as does UF.
I’m also sending in the housing fee tomorrow.

Luckily, I paid the $25 in October, because it was my #1 school. Definitely send it in because there are A LOT of people who didn’t do it yet.

& about the major thing, yes, but it shouldn’t be your whole decision. Just a bit more walking (:

So, let’s say I sent mine in tomorrow.
What areas would you say I have the best shot at?
I would prefer the type of area where two rooms share a bathroom as opposed to the entire floor using the bathroom. Sorry if I’m not familiar with the terminology :P

I don’t think you’ll get that type where it’s only a few people sharing. Just hope you’re not in the non-air dorms, Thomas & Buckman! You might get some of the less popular dorms, where you have to share a bathroom with a lot of people. Honestly, it’s not that bad. I visited my bf in college and had to use that type of bathroom, and it wasn’t entirely bad. (:

I know my friend was telling me that most people use the showers during the night, which is a good thing since I can barely function without a shower in the morning lol
What dorms would you suggest for me to put on my preferences?

Can someone give me an overview on how the housing pick actually works. I understand you pay the 25 deposit (I did in October) but do you have to submit your deposit to say your going before you can use that priority and pick? That would mean that the people like me who wait till May 1st to decide would get the worst dorms? Or is done by how quick you submitted the $25 bucks?

I believe that if you paid your $25, you have until March 1st to pay the $200 housing deposit. If you go the housing portal, you can add your preferences for housing. Then within 24 hours or so - a $200 charge appears on your account in myufl and you have until March 1st to pay it.

guys, buckman and Thomas are not that bad. They have, in my opinion, the best location. After a little over a month, it got super cold really quickly, so we haven’t even had the A/C on in my room since maybe early september. Also, Broward dining hall is literally the worst. They have less choices, the lines are always soo long, like you will seriously be waiting from a half hour to an hour for one item. And it is really loud and ugly, it reminds me more of a school cafeteria than a college dining hall. That is one of the reasons I would recommend not going to the east side of campus housing. besides, if you want to call a dorm a dungeon, it’s gonna be broward, everything in that building just looks bad. I would be depressed if I lived there. and I haven’t inspected every room or anything like that, but I think the rooms in the dorms in graham/trusler/simpson are a little bigger, but I definitely know the closets are bigger than broward.

eagleskyline- broward, Jennings, and Graham (:

eagleskyline-I’m with you there. The idea or sharing a bathroom with 50 other people sort of puts me on edge, but I will do it if I gotta!

But I’ve heard that there are sites and on facebook, where you can actually find a roomate before you move into a dorm. Is that true?

Yeah, but I’m hoping to get a suite style.
And I know there’s that site called ■■■■■■■■, but you have to pay $10 to even message people. Maybe they’re other sites that let you find potential room mates for free?

I’m thinking about putting Jennings as my number 1 choice, if I submit my housing fee today will I have a chance of getting Jennings?

when you do all your payments, UF will give you something for roombug, it’s an app on Facebook (:

I’m not sure if you’ll get Jennings, because it’s so popular, but I would try! That’s my first choice

Thanks!

Are any of you going to consider living based on their Living Learning Communities? Is it best to?

Hey do you know when they’ll send the roombug thing? I already paid the housing fees a couple days ago. I personally think everyone should wait to use that instead of ■■■■■■■■. I did the ■■■■■■■■ thing, and then realized why even bother because you have to pay to even see anything or contact the other person! lol! Kinda a waste of money…hope roombug is free.

I was thinking about Trusler, but then I decided that I think I just wanna chill, since I was too involved in HS already! lol

newgator1- Roombug is free, and I’m sure they send it out, because the website said so. I’ll call UF on Tuesday and ask about that. Unless you find out some other way. lol

(:

thanks! I probably will not find an answer before then, lol.
