Since the CSS Profile costs money...

...should I just not file for my reach schools?

For example, I applied to Stanford at the urging of my parents, but I sincerely doubt that I'll get in. Wouldn't it just be a waste of money then to file the CSS Profile for that school?

It’s your money. Spend it (or not) as you like.

Wouldn’t you feel like an idiot, though, if you get in . . . and then can’t attend because you can’t afford it?

There are deadlines for financial aid applications. You don’t make them, you are at the end of the line and may get no money. The deadlines all tend to be before you know if you are accepted or not. For a few bucks, losing out on a lot of money seems to be foolish to me… Doubt if your parents will impressed with the money you saved them on not filing PROFILE if that happens.

Why bother even applying? Save on the app and all of the trouble too.
