Since when does it matter?

I have been thinking about it, and when were universities ever sympathetic to poor, first generation URM? If universities were sympathetic, they wouldnt cost 35K+.

Correct me if I'm worng but, I feel that universities admit URMs in order to bolster their mionority numbers in order to recieve federal funding?

You're probably right.

Plus, it's that whole lovey-dovey, "let's all hold hands", pluralitic vision that these schools are pursuing for the sake of public relations (at the expense of their academic quality).

Sure but does any school give a flying crap about URM if they are poor or affluent?

I know a black kid, in Potomac, Md, the most affluent city in the country, who got into a top 5 school with very sub-par grades.

That gives me this impression, the kid is on scholarship yet he is as well off as everyone else in my city.
