^ I did - I uploaded my resume via the additional info upload box. No guarantees they will read it though.

^ ya u can try the above. apparently many of my friends did that. it would be nice if you can get ur CT to talk about them too.

hi question here!
how is everyone going overseas? father/mother scholarship or government scholarship or private scholarship? i mean, if it’s too personal you can DM me (: (if you want t) or just tell me i’d be really interested t find out more!

most, especially those going to uk, are going on government scholarships (maybe ~70%). the rest are going on FMS (maybe ~25%) or financial aid (maybe ~5%). what are the private scholarships that you speak of?

Yeah this thread is dying huh. Let’s hope this gets answered nonetheless.

So yeah, my question is about the Singaporean grading system versus the American. Most colleges (I’m applying mostly to LACs) seem to say that they’ll convert our grades into GPAs through their ‘own way’ and all. As such, I was wondering how they actually go about doing this. I once saw on a college’s website that an A was a 4, a B a 3 and so on after which the average would be our GPA. Is this how it’s done for all colleges or have I been misled.

And one last question, also regarding the GPAs, they look at the predicted A Levels grades to determine it, right, 'cause everyone knows that the Prelims are harder than the As.

Thanks…if answered. 8]

^ They will evaluate you with other applicants from Singapore - separately from Americans and all that.

I think most of the colleges understand that the grading system in Singapore is quite significantly different from the American one. I don’t think they will bother to “calculate” a GPA for Singaporeans.

^ Yup trust frank on this. The admission officers (at least those from colleges more popular with Singaporeans) know we take a levels. They know prelims are a killer. They know our syllabus is tough and rigorous. etc etc.

So grading’s probably the last thing you should worry about, assuming you have decent grades :)

^ Haha if any of the colleges actually tried to calculate my GPA based on my block test/promos/prelim results, then I would have ended up with a GPA of around 2 =p.

^Yeah exactly! Though I’m pretty sure that the schools I’m applying to don’t get many Singaporean applicants(actually I’m not even Singaporean; I just study here), then the information provided by the school counselor about the grading system should solve this GPA issue yeah? Alright, thanks! Off to study for the killer prelims then…

^ Even if you’re not Singaporean you will probably be compared to the Singaporean pool - considering you went through the same system and were offered similar opportunities etc.

Frank: ah I think most schools know that in terms of difficulty, HCI papers pwnz all :D

^ Meh. Your Raffles papers aren’t easy either =p

no lor, ri (jc) papers are among the easiest around. hci, njc, mjc have really hardcore papers. our local version of grade inflation/deflation perhaps?

Or maybe I am just noob :p. Haha - I think prelim papers of any JC isn’t easy - the real A-levels are much much easier.

“Yeah this thread is dying huh.”

Yeah. I bet this is only active when application time comes around.

^ well it was quite active until screwitlah and fiona_ decided to go to college

^ Then you and me will go and this thread will sink to the bottom of the CC depths/archives =p

The irony of this on collegeconfidential.

In any case, where are all the singapore class of 2014 applicants on CC?

^ Looking at the stats profiles, it seems like there are very very few '14 applicants from Singapore! O:

They probably haven’t found this site yet.

srrinath: yeah, just when '14 applicants can do with some much needed info on top ivies and lacs. the irony of cc.
