Well they look at your EOT/EOY results - not so much the Teacher’s Message to Parents or whatever it is.

screwitlah: i meant the supposed grade deflation at hwach. was it good or bad for the students?

I think it was actually neutral until they started forcing students to send their prelim and promo grades.

Has anyone applied for US F-1 student visa before?

Do you apply successfully?

What documents do you bring for interview?

What questions do they ask?

^ good question.

How is the process like, specific to Singapore? (well, at least good thing we no need to translate documents, ya?)

Hey, I’m having doubts and queries about visa application too! Any seniors here that could guide us through the process.

Also, I just got my I-20 and I’m pretty much clueless about what to do next even after going to the Sg’s US embassy website countless times. HELP!!!

I just want to get to the US. :/

Hey again. Ok I think i’ve got it figured out somewhat. Firstly, I have to fill out the online Form DS-160 electronic visa application, which must be printed out and also from which I can get a ten digit barcode number(confirmation page must also be printed). After which, that ten digit barcode number will then be used to make an appointment online using the NIV Appointment System. Would this be correct? hmm thanks! Good luck to all for their visa application; one last step!

hey april, i’m going to columbia this fall as a freshman.

Hi to all,

Do any seniors on the board have any tips for the financial aid application so as to maximise the amount of financial aid awarded? For e.g.

Any special circumstances with regards to S’pore that may disadvantage one’s income / increase one’s expenses, yet not be immediately recognised by those in the US?

Any special things to include or exclude when declaring family income and expenses?

some financial aid application forms do not request information on living expenses, only several aspects like medical expenses. In that case, how do financial aid counsellors determine whats the amount that a family can spare for college education?

I would also like to know the extent of rigour that you used when going about computing family income and expenses. were the figures you imputed really a general estimate or was there some sort of detailed computation process involved?

this is really impt for me so please help me out with your replies. Thank you!

Soooo my visa appointment is tomorrow, and I just realised I forgot to do the money order. I’m screwed.

are most people going to the us on scholarship? i’m looking at liberal art colleges and i’m not sure whether i should try applying for scholarships next year cos i don’t know whether its worth it to be on bond for 6 years (if i even get it haha). is it true that uk unis offer no help with regards to funding unlike us ones? if it is then i’m just going to apply to us and not uk…

shib,

LACs and govt statuary boards don’t mesh at all. Except for perhaps Brown. That is nearly the only LAC the are willing to give u a scholarship for. Even reputable US LACs like Oberlin, Pomona and Grinnell are basically ignored in Sg and by all scholarship givers…

^ Brown is not a LAC. It’s an Ivy League school (if this means anything at all) that happens to have an open, liberal curriculum.

With due respect, I disagree with your above claim that scholarship boards “ignore” reputable LACs. Sure, the majority of scholars apply to and end up at non-LACs, but this does not mean that the scholarship boards are naturally biased against LACs. In fact, in this ST letter, MOE has claimed liberal arts as “the best way forward” ([Liberal arts: The best way forward](http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/STIStory_522639.html)) and I have several friends who have received scholarship offers to study at LACs overseas.

Good good, can give it a shot i guess. but 1st gotta decide your schools of interest. and, like u yourself realise, the 6 year bond. that’s the next decade of your life,

Hey.

Can anyone tell me about the Typical A-level (Cambridge) offers given out to Biz students, who applied to NUS, NTU and SMU? I Couldn’t find the stats anywhere.

About LACs:
AStar was OK with me and Harvey Mudd (although I decided not to take it). Also, HMC is more techy than most LACs. Also an AStar scholar goes to Wellesley.

PSC has a scholar at Claremont McKenna, another LAC.

Another A*STAR scholar is at Carleton.

Speaking of which, how do those A*STAR scholars get 4.0 at the likes of Caltech?!
