Singaporean connection

For Singaporean applicants, sending your O Levels and A Levels Prelims is more than enough (of course if you have a flawless academic record, feel free to send everything form Sec 3 to JC2).

Regarding predicted grades, RJC has its own form for teachers to fill up. For the rest I suppose your CT will write your predicted grades together with his/her recommendation.

No I didn’t, but I wasn’t required to. I applied to Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Penn, CMU, NYU, Cornell and Columbia.

Thanks 1234d AND frankchn!! :)

Any of you guys know concretely how the Prediction of Prelims Grades works?

And what are good grades for the forecast results when applying to colleges such as U Mich /Cornell/ CMU/ JHU/ and U Minnesota/ Purdue?? Like just a rough idea would be great!

Thanks!

Your teacher will predict your A-level grades based on your Prelim grades. The predicted grades are usually higher than your Prelim grades (because Prelims are usually harder and you will be more prepared for A-levels). Supposedly, colleges place more importance on the predicted grades because they are usually closer to the actual A-level grades.

But who knows how it really works?

Hey guys,

Anybody have an experience of applying to US universities which require Foreign Credential Evaluation by Credential Evaluators?

Are S'poreans required to do this or can they just send the grades and school transcripts directly to the universities?

Thank you.

you can send your grades directly. A/O levels are standardized exams.

@ depr91. Thanks

But how about Predicted grades and Year 5 results? These are just School based exam results and I only have O Levels. The A levels won’t be released at the time when Im applying.

^ Ask your form teacher/civics tutor to send certified true copies of them along with your counselor recommendation.

Okay thanks. So if schools such as Georgia Tech and UDelaware ask for evaluations for credential education evaluators, I just send them the transcripts through CommonApp via the CT?

hey guys, do you know any bad college towns? cos i heard philly and the part of LA usc is in have pretty high crime rates.

Well hopefully my jc results won’t affect me much cos I’ve already got my A level results. Actually I could just ask my teacher what are the grades of other students from my school applying to us then i’ll know my competition. And i’m pretty sure in jc most people who get 4as at a levels get Cs and Ds in internal exams, well at least for my school.

Im applying to a university that says that it is not allowed to submit photocopied results. So If I’m sending my O’level and Secondary school results, which I only have 1 original copy to, how I am supposed to do it. Can I make sure a photocopy is marked as a true copy by an official?

thx

ask them if they accept certified true copies of certificates. you can photocopy your original and get it certified at your school’s general office.

if they still won’t budge, get a certificate of statement from MOE. it will cost you $10 per copy though.

I was from a certain school in the central/north district of singapore, and while many of my batchmates who got 4As usually had only about 2 As + maybe a B and maybe a C/D for econs, i’m definitely sure that its not the case that most of them got Cs and Ds only.

Especially those who eventually got into the best schools - granted they didnt get their 5As all the way, but they were always not far from those grades.

is it true that we need to show our schools our secondary school results when applying?

what is up with all the sg usernames ?

and no, just use your JC results.

cool! i’ll be applying next year after a gap

Trelawney: just curious, is Bishan considered central/north? hahah

Haha. Why everyone seems to have SG username?anyway, I wanted to ask depr91, what do you mean by u can send ur jc results only. The colleges specify that they want results from GRade 9 to 12. In that case aren’t u supposed to provide marks from sec 3 to Jc2?

Thanks

sghopeful: you still need your O Level results though, and if you don’t have O Level results, some schools might want to see your sec 4 transcript. Not sure how this works now.

sgapplicant: it’s different for us. Generally they want to see O and A Levels, that’s enough.

Ryan0828: I know what you mean - lots of my friends who got 3As and 4As were C/D students right up to prelims (so did I). However remember that getting in is easy, it’s the going that is difficult, unless your parents can pay. That’s where most of the top students distinguish themselves in the scholarships race, I think.
