hi guys, any poly students studying in the states now? i have some questions pertaining to poly students wanting to study in the US.

first of all , is a polytechnic graduate considered a freshman or a transfer applicant? and if we're considered as transfer applicants is it okay if i apply as a freshman? lastly , because we have a different educational system as compared of the US , how does our GPA measure up against theirs? thanks alot

Hey was wondering if any senior could read my essay and give me some feedback? (:

fiona_ since you are so free why don't you do up a chance thread for your good friend l q?

Hahaha... What's the point? We already know he'll get in anywhere. Plus it might make him angry :(

Guys, my counselor put 'no' for the part regarding whether the school limit the no. of AP and advanced courses a student can take. Is that fine? I mean nobody can take 5 H2 and 4 H3 rite?

The admissions officer should be familiar enough with Singapore's educational system so you don't need to worry.

Oh and yes, l q will most probably (I'd say >90%) get into HYPSM + wherever else he applies to.

who is this guy you are talking about?

i think he's godlike

so who's getting back their scores at 5?

Today at 5? Good luck kids.

I just got my score! Still can't quite believe it though :D
2330 (CR 750/ M 780/ WR 800)
I swear to everything that's holy i thought i logged into somebody else's account.. lol i like stared at the screen and then started OMG-ing.
Math still sucks. Somehow made one mistake ! ugh I so give up on Math

given the fact that you weren't schooled in singapore your whole life, they might give you some affirmative action... 2330 seems like a pretty safe score.

haha but if i were you i'd just retake. i'm a believer in high scores, and i swear that every little bit helps.

Jeez... Since you're Vietnamese you're practically a shoo-in for at least one Ivy League. Have you seen the Vietabroader wiki on applying to US?

Hi there. My first post :D
Is there anyone received offers from UK yet? Does anyone know when I am gonna get result from Imperial? I submitted my application like 3 weeks ago XD

You know fiona you brought me from one surprise to the next! :D You know about vietabroader and you actually read that site? Haha no i havent read that part yet but i'm reading now. I do know one vietnamese person who got into Columbia with <2000 sat, and another who got into brown with ~2000 sat. Actually i've only heard of one (applying this year actually) from Vietnam with 2370 SAT EA-ing stanford. So that's one more 2300-er in the Vietnamese pool.. The rest of the lot struggle to break the 2000 or 2100 bar.

Anyway so a certain mister with a long list of gold medals is also applying EA Yale. Well aren't I in for a fight! :D

@screwitlah: I don't think i'll retake la! the thought of spending another ~70USD to sit for another 3 hour exam makes me tired.. Plus i can only see a possible 20 points jump in Math, which is kinda not worth it? and there's the (HUGE) risk of deproving.. The only part i prepared for this time round was the essay. It was like half a page longer than my May one but score still the same! (11) waste my time can! lol

Why the heck is it so frustratingly difficult to get 800 for math? -___- One mistake and boom! 20 marks gone

Made 4 mistakes for vocab i think. Damn, only if i could bring myself to memorize words from a wordlist. I think the vocab section is quite meaningless! (not only because i suck at it :D) "No writer learns words from a wordlist" <-- my mantra. Although i'm no writer lol

Oh for competitive UK schools you have got to wait. Decisions wont come out so early one la. Don't expect anything until mid-Dec or early-Jan, so this professor told me

Well, my Vietnamese bestie is super bored as well. Ya know, we don't have to take A levels. gets killed by horde of JC2 students

Z h a n g K a n g is from China. Haha, you're from Vietnam. Yes, I heard from my bestie that in Vietnam, most people get pretty low SAT scores. She suggested I spend my 7 months break before uni tutoring SAT in Vietnam.

And screwitlah, you bourgeoisie waster of money. Feeding that capitalist CB machine? How dare you suggest that!! faux dismay

sigh, i flopped my SAT 1. And I've not studied for my SAT IIs. My brains are rotten from NS. haha.

how do you all know who the mister is?

Insider joke :)
