Well I think it will be recognized. Seems that quite a number of schools offer the option - from a few minutes of Google, I know that Stanford, UWisconsin, UCLA, UCDavis, etc... all have that option.

These programmes have different names with different colleges though, "Individually Designed Major", "Individual Major" etc so check out each school's websites for more information.

thanks! unfortunately i've kinda shot myself by only applying to send my SAT scores to cornell, uchicago and NWU...sigh...hmm, are u from s'pore too (ok, another rather dumb question)?

if you're applying for aid to uchicacgo, cornell or northwestern, and you don't have a sterling record (trust me, i'm not not trying to be elitist), chances are you are just wasting your application fees. also, you might be mistaken if you think that US unis do not care about academics. these are institutions of higher learning for a reason!

on a side note, i have no idea why you have such a distorted and skewed view of those from rjc/hci (perhaps you should make friends with galoisen). it might seem like a big surprise to you, but besides sheeer academics/alevels, rjc is doing rather well in other fields like sports and arts/music. you might want to check out the person fiona_ was talking about - he's not only IMBA in sports, studies and cca, but also a humble and unassuming person.

hwa chong? cool, my bro's there under the sp...maybe u've seen him? hmm...think i'll sit for my SATs and think abt the unis in the meantime...thanks for the info and help! =)

the article is kind old so im not too sure about the relevancy of it....anyone got any comments on the schools mentioned? (like whether their good schs, etc -other than yale of course-)

Yes, but then the more accurate statement would be "UChicago is not need-blind to internationals". (MIT is need-blind to domestic students AFAIK, but not to internationals either.) I mean, not being need-blind in general says a lot about your education philosophy, and to say that an otherwise generally need-blind school was not need-blind at all would be a bit of slander.

i'm beginning to understand why nobody likes you around here.

anyway, forget it. oceanwave: university of michigan, northwestern and carnegie mellon stand out from your list. very few people hear would have heard of the rest, so take that into consideration if you're gonna return to singapore and work.

MIT is needblind to both internationals and domestics, Galoisien.

Seriously man. I don't know why you spend so much time on CC. You even posted a Chance thread in the UVa forum for some honours program? And whine about a C you got... How about actually doing real work off CC and trying to fit in? No, sorry, you're too busy, flaunting your bleeding-heart anti-social liberalistic intellectualism.

Oceanwave: GATech is a pretty good school (not really recognised in Singapore, but good) however, I believe it's public, so probably no Finaid.

fiona: yea, heard from some threads that GATech is rather good but really is quite unheard of in s'pore

SIL: is michigan good? i mean, im not really comparing it with the ivies but how does it stand in the rankings for science? hmm, i dropped carnegie mellon from my list of schs as they absolutely have no financial aid for any students...btw, ive been seeing many of the unis of californias, which one(s) is/are the better ones? i know of berkley only. not sure abt the rest...

and erm, and help out there with locating a list of schools (rankings) for envt chem? cant seem to google any list out for this major...maybe its just too unpopular with students?

Michigan is good for Engine / Science. Lots of AStar scholars go there - Even if you don't like AStar, you have to admit their opinion is worth something, they wouldn't waste their money. Ranked in top three for ChemE I believe, and other engineerings as well. It's much better than the Ivies (say Brown) for engine actually. Ivies are renowned for Liberal Arts education.

UMich has extremely limited FA for intels - haven't heard of any getting aid, it's a public. Plus, Singaporeans are extremely overrated - forget about them wanting Singaporeans for diversity.

UCB is good for general Chem. UCSD is good for biomedical sciences. Not sure about the rest. UCs don't give FA for internationals, unless you apply to the lower-ranked ones which I'm sure you don't want to anyway. I don't have much info about FA for UCs.

Most rankings only cover larger majors, like Chemistry or Engineering. Grad school rankings will cover a greater variety of majors, but may not translate to undergrad quality. Anyway, Envt Chem is rather specific - Just go check the Chem rankings. They should give a good indication.

OK i have a question to ask. Right now im graduating from secondary school ( a crappy one) Im in the middle of O lvls, i have a paper tomorrow actually.

But anyway I plan to take next year off to pursue internships and other interests , such as traveling.

I intend to take the SATs and SAT2 next year and apple to colleges using only my o lvls.

Will this be possible?
I am likely to go to an ART school , which does not even require foreign students to submit SAT scores, so im fairly positive i'll be admitted based on my art portfolio.
