Singer with the best pure voice?

His voice was the best in rock, but only for a short period of time. He chose to act badass and do drugs, and now his voice is terrible. What’s the point in being a singer if you don’t take care of your voice? Mind you, I am an Oasis fan as well, but I’m more of a Noel fan. He is the heart and soul of Oasis.

^ that’s just Liam. I still love him, even if he can’t sing Live Forever anymore, which is my favourite song =(

I think Elvis (in his prime) would be right up there. He really could sing anything.

Pure, as in, clear as a bell and resonates throughout the room?

Vienna Teng, Inara George, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, Emily Haines, James Mercer, Freddie Mercury.

Now, most powerful/distinctive/impressive/marvelous voices? That’s a lot harder to do.

Most distinctive: Michael Jackson, Enya, Eminem?

I love the people who said Adam Lambert, Lea Michele, and Emmy Rossum. Those are three of my four favorite people. :)

And, along with those choices, I say Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball from Les Miserables.

Yeah, Adam Lambert will be remembered decades from now

I second Amy Lee;she is amazing. As is Christina Aguilera…i don’t exactly know if her voice is “pure”, whatever that means, but, um, i think she’s the most incredible vocalist to ever live  oh, & adam lambert is amazing, as well <33
just to add, i find sarah brightman extremely annoying. her voice is just to opera-y & trained…the complete opposite of pure, i believe (:

Some of you guys can’t be serious: Adam Lambert, Kris Allen? Really?

For women today, it’s got to be Christina Aguilera for most amazing vocals (I don’t know what ‘pure’ is supposed to mean). But her voice totally outshines anyone living/still singing today. Of course, there’s also Aretha Franklin, who is perhaps the greatest female singer of all time. Alicia Keys is also amazing. Dido is pretty good, too.

For men today, there really aren’t any. Most of today’s male singers aren’t as good as guys used to be. If I HAD to pick one it would be John Legend. He has a solidly good voice, better than any other so called male singers today.

The really tough one is trying to single out greatest male vocalists of all time - SOOO many solid candidates: Simon & Garfunkel, Paul McCartney (way better than John Lennon), Ray Charles, Jeff Buckley. But if you look at it, no one has a voice as good as Freddie Mercury, I think. The man was a vocal genius. 4-octave vocal range. If you don’t believe me that he’s the best, go listen to We Are the Champions, You’re My Best Friend, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and of course Somebody to Love, come back and I guarantee you this - you will understand why he is the greatest vocalist of all time.

Alot of people recognized as great vocalists are more distinctive than they are good, if that makes sense - Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Robert Plant, Bob Marley, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, John Lennon - all good singers in their own right, but if they hadn’t been so original/innovative, they wouldn’t be seen as so great. The ones I named above are just downright excellent vocalists.

I’m glad to see some Lea Michelle lovers out there

she was AMAZING in spring awakening…and is just as good in Glee

You said pure voices, not the best voices:

Lady Gaga. I hate, hate, hate most of her music but she truly has an amazing voice.

Adam Lambert. I’m not a glamgal or whatever they call his groupies. I’ve known him for quite a number of years and have heard him sing a few feet away from me and he truly has a flat out gorgeous voice.

And obviously Freddie Mercury was pure genius.

Carrie Underwood for sure

Chris Cornell imo
