Single Dorm Issue

So I’m kind of in a weird spot regarding my housing situation for next fall. I plan on going to WSU, but I wasn’t aware (it just slipped my mind) how difficult it was to attain a single dorm. I thought you just requested one, and you’d be given one, which obviously I now know isn’t the case.

I’m in a difficult position because I’m very certain that I can’t do a double, because I can’t sleep in the presence of another person in the room, I’ve been like this for awhile. I share a room with my brother, but I almost always sleep in the living room, because I don’t feel comfortable. I’m not sure why, it’s just how I’ve always been. The problem is that this isn’t a documented medical reason. I’m not really sure how to go about it. I thought about visiting a doctor, but I’m not even sure how that would help me. This is kind of a make it or break it issue, because I know I would be miserable in a double when it comes to sleeping.

will the school consider this a reasonable reason? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

You need to call the school directly and ask.

I would guess that the school would stick to their policy about documented medical reason. You could explore this with your doctor, I suppose (I don’t know much about sleep problems or diagnoses but maybe you do have a diagnosable condition, anxiety, insomnia (if that’s a diagnosis). You are early in the process, which is good. There are likely things that you can do to increase your chances such as make your deposit ASAP if you haven’t already, and see how housing is selected and stuff and make sure that you are doing everything as soon as it opens up. Good luck!
