I am thinking that I will take a single dorm for college; so other than the higher tuition of the room what other bad things and good things about the single dorm????

Well if you are going to be a freshman then some negatives would be not having that roommate/ floor mate bond because many people who are in single dorms tend to close themselves off. Of course having your own room means you don’t have to deal with an annoying roommate. You can go to bed when you want, wake up when you want, not have to worry about making too much noise. I mean having your own room is great, I have one now but I am also a junior. I think that if you decide to take a single next year make sure you prop your door open and say hi to people in the hall so you don’t miss out on the social connections.

Some schools have a very, very small number of singles, so you might not be able to get one even if you want to. Otherwise the cons are increased price, the space is smaller, and you miss out on social connections. The good part is that you get better sleep (no snoring roommates), you can’t get stuck with crazy, don’t need to worry about another schedule, etc. I had a double to myself for about a month and I loved it, but for the most part having roommates wasn’t awful either.

Depending on the college, the space might not be smaller as rooms are often different sizes at schools that have a long history. My single was bigger than some people’s doubles twice.

I loved not having a roommate. If you want to be social, you leave your door open like most people did during the day when home. If you don’t want to be social, close your door. And anyone who is having a tiff with their roommate can visit you and talk if they want to.

I found it great to have a single at college considering I always had a room of my own growing up, and my siblings invading my room was always not appreciated.
