I'm trying to decide whether having a roommate is for me or not. I'm a pretty outgoing guy and know I can make friends but I do get lonely at times. I have no siblings so I feel as though this may be an opportunity to a get a similar feeling, but at the same time it may be too much. I'm pretty tidy and don't smoke or drink so a roommate which does the opposite in these areas might bug me. But in the end I love talking to people and meeting people. Such a hard decision. Any thoughts or experience?

Happyguy, it sounds to me that having a roommate could be a great new experience for you. My daughter is a freshman, she initially intended on a single, but circumstances happened that she ended up in a double. She shared a room with her little sister until a couple of years ago, so she did have that experience to fall back on. She is fairly quiet, doesn’t party, but likes to socialize with her friends watching movies etc. Because the last minute change in dorm to a double, she did not do a RoomSync (this can be done on facebook in the spring) and she got a completely random roommate, in fact, she didn’t even know who it was until days before she left for the early Intensive Freshman Seminar program. The roommate has worked out, she is very sweet, and they get along fine. This may be the only time in your life that you will have a roommate, so try something new, you can always choose a single in future years. RoomSync seems like it would be your best bet, so you can find someone who is a good social match for you. Good Luck and enjoy your freshman year!
