Single or double/triple dorm for a transfer

Hey everyone,

So im going to be transferring to Ohio University next semester and they have a lot of single dorm rooms.

I'm trying to figure out if i should go for the single, or take a chance at a bad roommate.

I'm a fairly independent person, i like social interaction if im comfortable in a situation, but when im alone (as long as im not lonely) i am pretty happy.

I'll probably be joining the marching band which i heard takes tons of time out of the day so thats probably where i will be getting my social interaction. 93% of my high school friends came out of marching band so i have a feeling this might be true here as well.

I'm worried (with OU's party reputation) that ill come back after a long MB practice/classes (going into meteorology) and just want some peace and quiet, but have a drunk roomie stumble in at 3 in the morning..

the only thing im really worried about is the size. I'm pretty sure the singles are tiny, which might be okay but right now im living in a double with a bathroom connected to another double, and its pretty roomy... but i guess you adjust..

any thoughts on this?

I had a double my first year as a transfer, got a single second time around. Single is ten times better in just about every possible way. You adjust to size, and my single isn’t even really that small. My boyfriend lived in an 8x10 for a long time and even that became comfortable after an adjustment period. It’s a lot easier to adjust to a small space than a bad roommate, I live in a 10x11 dorm by myself now and it feels way roomier than my 14x20 double did with my ******* of a roommate in it. And anyway, there is something to be said for being social when you want to be and having a door to close behind you when you don’t.

Wow your words are so true… i think im def gonna go for a single… thanks for helping me out twice in a day.

If anyone else has any thoughts, i welcome them!

Thanks!

I’ve lived in a single and a double and strongly prefer the single.

The way I see it is that if you’re outgoing, you’re going to make friends regardless of whether you have a single or double. (The same holds if you’re shy.)

And when I transferred, as a junior, they put me with a freshman. There are some mature freshmen out there who are fun to be around, but she was not one of them.
