Single room for transfer students?

When filling out my housing application, I selected that I would prefer a single. How likely do you think that my request will be accommodated? Do most people select singles or do most prefer having a roomie or two or five? (I realize that this is probably pure speculation; just trying to see if anybody has had any experience with this!)

I have the same question.

Honestly, singles are pretty hard to come by for upper class men housing (since most people choose them first). You could get one, but the odds aren’t exactly in your favor

Hi,

I came in as a transfer. One change that Cornell made pretty recently was actually giving Transfers good housing as opposed to segregating all of them into one area back in the day lol.

Your chances are actually pretty great. Most transfers are assigned housing in West Campus, one of the “holy grails” of housing. I got assigned a single in a 5-person suite. It consisted of 3 singles and a double. I do know a few people that checked “single preferred” in their apps and still ended up with doubles. Some of them ended up enjoying the experience, others eventually requested to move out.

Oh wow! I didn’t know that (my bad!) Sorry, I based my answer on experience since most sophomores to be at cornell can’t get housing on west and can’t get singles at all unless they are one of the 40 freshman with the best timeslots…

Aren’t sophomore transfers considered “first years” still? I’ll be transferring in as a Junior

It’s sort of a grey area, but theoretically speaking, yes, transfers are considered “first years”. I came in as a sophomore but I also had a handful of friends who came in as juniors and still got singles so not all hope is lost! I think you find out housing assignments pretty soon actually, don’t remember the exact date unfortunately.

I ended up with a double is cascadilla. My roommate is from the same geographic region area as me so perhaps that why I got paired with him. Can’t complain!

@shockastrika83‌ welcome to cascadilla (I’m living there next year as well)!!
