I am an incoming junior transfer student and wanted to know the likelihood of obtaining a single room on-campus. I've heard that it is extremely difficult, but would be grateful for any advice. Could any of you recommend good off-campus options? I appreciate any help, as I am not entirely familiar with the area.

You can get a double as a single in Granville; I understand several transfers do that. It will be more expensive as you will pay for the double room rate, minus the extra meal plan. The plus is you get a single room on the transfer floor if you would like, and will be with other students instead of off campus alone.

I do not know if there is an option for a single on campus, but I am sure if you call the housing office they would be happy to tell you.

I was in the EXACT situation as you. Craig’s list is the answer. I just posted in the housing thread my situation and got 5 responses in the first week, all of which were walking distance from campus. It’s worth a shot.

Plus renting a room from someone like that is a hell of a lot cheaper than on-campus housing.

I found the perfect match this way 4 days after acceptance.

Yes there are singles on south campus for transfers and lucky freshmen. You might also consider the Odum village on campus apt option which has two bedrooms but each student has their own bedroom shares a living room, dining room, bath and kitchen. Hinton James has super singles which are doubles as singles and i believe they have a/c. So, there are some options. My D had a super single in HJ and it was wonderful as far as the space goes, two desks, two dressers, two closets…but suitemates partied and were too loud. With the right neighbors it could be great!

There are offcampus options. I do not recommend Granville for OSS. It is very cliquely these threads have revealed and hard on OSS (these are not my opinions but there are many threads on this very topic). Lots of new options opening on Franklin where you may can rent frm a new condo owner…but don’t give up on a suitable room on campus. One more option is a NEW apartment on campus rams village behind Hinton James. Sometimes people will advertise needing a roommate for one of those…the 4 br are single rooms sharing common space of kitchen den and two baths I think.
