single rooms

ok so im goin into my freshman year next year...i have minor condition that requires me to take injections twice a week. Now because this is personal for me and I really dont wanna do it around other people...is it possible for me to get a single...and if so how likely is it i will?

most people who request singles get them. and since you want it because of a health issue, i'm almost 100% sure that you will get a single room when you request one. but i have a question too--will you absolutely be unable to deal with having a shared room, in your condition? if you have an understanding roomate, then you will still have an enjoyable time.

well would u wanna have to share your fridge with sum1s medication/needles lol

lol. I wouldn't: needles freak the hell out of me.

I'm having the same dilemma. I sort of want a single for medical reasons, but then again I'd like to have a roommate. I hope that I would be able to get a single room if I really wanted one.

do the schools you're planning on possibly going to next year have suite style dorming for freshmen? if so, you can probably get a single room within a suite; then you'll have your privacy and the experience of having a roomate.

personally, id rather not have a roomate, i dont really drink and i like my privacy so i guess it works out...plus my brother hates having a roomate. I think he got turned off from villanova because of his roomate.

But idk we'll see...my request would be more for my medical reasons

your roommate wouldnt be there 24/7, even if you had one, you would still be able to find time to give yourself the injections. Would you be comfortable telling him that his prescence would make you uncomfortable? If it takes you less than 5 mins, I don't see why he wouldnt be willing to leave the room for a few mins.

i dont really care whether my roomate will be uncomfortable with it....i wont be comfortable doing it around sum1. All im asking is if this is feasible, i dont really want to get into detail about what i am comfortable/not comfortable doing

Doogie I know a freshman at Wake who has a single this year. I think they are just a bit more expensive.

Doogie, maybe the question would be if you want your medication to be stored in a refrigerator with some one else's food!

Well, as the little sister of 2 diabetics, I've seen people go there and do that. They both had roommates, both were so uncomfortable giving shots in front of people that they'd do it in the bathroom (mind you, this is several times a day, not twice per week), and eventually, both of them decided it wasn't a big deal and just did it in the room.

You'd be surprised how comfortable you can get with your roommate(s).

Without a roomate things get really boring, really fast. Roomates don't all necessarily party and drink. On your housing app you can put the type of person you are, and they will put you with someone else like that.

Whether it is feasible or not really depends on the school. Some of the schools I applied to had virtually no singles available for freshmen. At the school I'm at I know of a few people who were able to get singles right off, and others who were able to swap into singles at the start of second semester. I believe singles are more expensive at pretty much all schools.

If a single is not possible (for whatever reason...no request is ever guaranteed it seems), you and your roommate could always each have your own small fridge. There are some small ones out there that don't take up that much room. My guess is it doesn't take that long to deal with injections; could you do them while your roommate is showering? I'll agree with the poster who said that you will get very comfortable with your roommate, and that's whether you like them or not. I've always been an extremely private person, but I am now more comfortable around my roommate than my own family. Go figure.

u know wut it is...its like a mix between me being uncomfortable and me not wanting to get turned off the first year by a crappy roomate. My bro got turned off to villanova cause his roomate was a jerk. So i figured id get close to sum1 the first year and then room

singles at Lehigh are at a premium. Take the chance on a roommate - you may be pleasantly surprised :) Not all roommates are bad and just because your brother had one chances are you may not...are you going to 'Nova too??
Do you keep your meds in the fridge at home? No different in school... jmho

no, id rather get close with sum1 first be4 u dive into living together...i dont like that

It depends on the school you are going to. I go to UC Davis & I had a single in the dorms. A lot of people opt to live with as many people as possible to be social & save money... I prefered to pay more & not be bothered. There are a lot more people that request singles than there are single rooms, but of the people I knew - 2/3 got singles that requested it.

yea thats what i feel pearl...do u think my whole medical thing would give me the room

If the fridge situation is the major concern, just purchase your own fridge before school starts. You can always do injections in the bathroom since you only need them twice a week, but you might be surprised at how accepting people are. This would enable you to maintain the social life associated with a roommate, if you're concerned with that.

i dont wanna have to go to the bathroom to do that stuff. Id rather have the privacy of my own room until I find people id like to room with.

Lol no offense and i do appreciate the suggestions of everyone...but can we stop playing Dr. Phil and just comment on the possibility of getting a private room.
